GOal Newcastle! Isaac Hayden half-volleys from the edge of the box after an Atsu shot was blocked. Deserved goal to be honest. Southampton had had lots of possession but weren't doing anything with it. Atsu has been sharp for Newcastle.

He has no reason to complain...  Both at Real Madrid and Manchester United he has spent a king's ransom on players.  Even at Inter he didn't suffer from bringing in big names.  He's spent over that and his football has never been directed towards a style that goes for humiliating other teams.

Arsene Wenger has spent tons of money over the years although not in short spells I must admit, and it has regressed instead of getting better.  He can't even complain at Chelsea to be honest...  The club signed top talent during his first tenure but the football was aimed at something different.

Not disagreeing with that. The best of Mourinho died in 2010.

My point being is that sure City are currently looking like a monstrosity. But that is down to the sheer fact Pep is financially backed more than any other manager in the league, ultimately down to the other fact that if you want to do well and be the best, you have to outspend everyone.

City's current football is definitely down to him getting something near to what he wants in the transfer market...  Not all mind you, as he's had to improvise in the market and what he wants can't be got.  But as with any top coach, he wants something that goes along with what he asks from his team on the field of play.  There are times when his purchases look to be ridiculous but then you see what he's looking for.

All the same...  It's very early in the season to judge whether he's got it right just yet, but they do look very good and at a different level right now.

Fair enough, he was very good at Real though.

He was, but always a sub!  Whether from the start or coming off the bench, he never played a whole game.  He was NEVER the main man at Real Madrid and anyone willing to sign him and pay the wages that he would demand would be off their heads!  I wouldn't have him at Lugo and I'm not joking.

Fraser Forster is fucking garbage.

Southampton are. Not sure what he could do about the goal apart from not dive for the first one (and would have looked stupid if it wasn't blocked).

Southampton look so toothless though. They've become a possession side with nothing to show for it. Find it easy to pass across the back and switch the ball from each flank to the other and get crosses in but once the opposition suss that out, it's so easy to defend against.

Amazing that in the Summer, there are specific positions teams need to address which is there for all to see, and they don't end up buying someone for that position. Then by the time the window is shut, it's too late and the problems are evident.

For example, Liverpool signing a striker. Everton signing a striker etc

Southampton badly needed to sign a striker and a creative attacking midfielder. None were purchased. Clear as day to see why they are struggling.

Glad it's half time. Had a 10 minute spell towards the end where we were making lots of stupid little errors that were giving their crowd more confidence. Need to regroup.

Southampton don't seem to take many risks at all. I thought it was going to be a terrible 0-0 after the first 10 minutes, we were never going to get the ball off a team that doesn't try to score. Now they have to have a go but we know there are chances for us even though we can be frustrating in attack.

Next goals the winner

Forster looks terribly nervous. Watches a glanced shot on to the bar and then hesitates at collecting a cross and ends up palming it out for a corner unnecessarily.

How have Newcastle let that equaliser in?!

Gabbiadini controls a ball on the edge of the box, runs with it to the byline after being jockeyed there by Manquillo, somehow runs back to where he collected it in the first place and shoots and scores xD. Poor goal to concede from Newcastle's point of view!

Disappointing that we've not got the 3 points as that was a stupid stupid penalty to give away.

We can be pleased with the performance, we are in the games away from home which is a major achievement in comparison to the relegation battle years.

Rob Elliott was poor today though. Other than the goal Perez was shite. Atsu and Ritchie had good games. Manquillo is gaining confidence, the mackems beat it out of him and he looked incapable of playing football when he arrived, but fair play to the lad he is growing.
