Tipped to be the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo's throne the Portuguese wonderkid finds himself on a plane back to Munich for treatment.

Poor at Bayern Munich and struggling in a poor Swansea side just where did it all go wrong for Renato?

Too much expectation WAY too early.  He is very talented but unfortunately it now seems he's been tainted with expectancy and will go down the route of others throughout history of in the same vein.  It's sad really because he really looked complete although not a master of any football craft.

He wasn't good enough for Bayern when he left, but there was hope that he'd improve quickly.

He's not that talented really. He's good at keeping the ball and world class at using his body to bully even the likes of Yaya Toure, but his passing is frustrating and his shooting is average.

He is actually 30.

Horrible racist jokes aside, he just isn't an intelligent player. He is a physical beast but that is it.

That would be Gonçalo Guedes!

IT looks that way but after André Gomes I don't believe anything and would rather wait to see it being done on a consistent level at the top end.

For a club normally so astute it's bizarre that they signed a player with little chance of contributing much for them, largely just on the basis of tournament hype. Sanches also should have been advised that he wasn't good enough to get regular minutes for Bayern. Then again, we don't know what Bayern promised to him, or if he's just overconfident.

Bayern also fucked him over a bit by dragging their heels on getting a loan for him. They dithered and gave mixed signals about their plans for him and then he was dropped into the then-worst team in the Premier League with no pre-season.

He's only 20 and has the raw talent to be a great player, but his next move needs to be right.

He’s only 20, so it’s still very early to be writing him off just yet.

Trying to establish yourself as an 18-19 year old at Bayern, around people like Xabi Alonso, Thiago, Javi Martínez etc can’t be an easy task and he’s joined a struggling side and it’s hard to stand out when you join a side battling for points.

Maybe the choice of destination for his loan wasn’t the best and he should have joined a better side on the continent.

The problem with Andre Gomes is that he left a club that he was perfect for at that moment in time in order to go to one which was out of his league and that he doesn't suit. The best thing he could have done is stayed at Valencia a few years longer atleast before making a move. I've never thought he was suited to Barcelona either personally and said it from when his signing was first made. At Valencia I was a big fan of him but he was never the type of player suited to Barcelona as far as I'm concerned.

Whatever those incentives are, they're obviously not going to be met and I'd say part of the reason are loaning him out with a wish to get rid unless a miracle happens and takes a league by storm (so as to then take him back) is so as whatever incentives there are aren't met at all. Bayern are defending their interests because they probably feel they made a massive mistake, a mistake many clubs may have made at that time with him because he really did look the business.

That just really shows how daft Football is at the top level. €35m for a kid that had played 24 games (and 2 goals) of top-level football and Bayern are throwing sums of money around like that based on so few games.

Is it possible that he should have been loaned to a better club? No disrespect to Swansea but they were going to struggle all season long. Maybe not an excuse as he has been shocking in every game he played, even poor Bakayoko did well in a few games xD

A good player will usually stand out regardless of club though. As you said, he's been poor whenever he's played.
