Smiley Culture
Leicester City’s entire playing squad, circa the year they won the Premier League. Undoubtedly some good players in that squad who can go down as decent Premier League players over the years but there was no real star quality in that side (maybe Mahrez if he performs at City). A true definition of greater than the sum of its parts. See also, that Ipswich Town team that finished about 6th in the Premier League in the early 00’s. I'd argue that Schmeichel and Vardy have continued to perform well and are more than one-season wonders. Vardy got 20 goals last season just in the league... Vardy got more goals in that season in less games for example.

The one reason I remember Jelavic is that he went on a ridiculous run of scoring one-touch finishes. Something like 10 games.

Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted October 29, 2018 Subscriber Share Posted October 29, 2018 Every new signing in football is bound to fill the fans with massive expectations. Quite a few of them find it difficult in the first campaign as they struggle to adapt to the fixtures congestion and the physical requirements of the league. Some of them live up to the hype that the transfer generated, and get off to an electric start with their new teams. However, in most cases, the second season doesn't prove to be as fruitful for them - the players stumble and lose their way and slowly move out of the limelight, never to be heard of again. In the PL, this phenomenon is more evident for some unfathomable reason. Here are some of the players who got off to blistering starts with their teams, but couldn't continue in the same vein of form in the subsequent seasons Top 10 one-season wonders in the Premier League https://www.sportskeeda.com/football/top-10-one-season-wonders-in-the-bpl 1 - Michu - Swansea 2 - Andy Johnson - Crystal Palace 3 - Robinho - Man City 4 - Roque Santa Cruz - Blackburn Rovers 5 - Papiss Cisse - Newcastle 6 - Mido - Spurs 7 - Asamoah Gyan - Sunderland 8 - Michael Ricketts - Bolton 9 - Amr Zaki - Wigan Athletic 10 - Michael Johnson - Man City

Dr. Gonzo
Raul Meireles - not even a one season wonder, tbh. A half-season wonder with a good run of form with us, then he wouldn't sign a contract extension (which I thought was weird he was being offered one because we'd only signed him the summer before and other than that good run of form there was nothing to suggest he was extra special) because he felt it wasn't enough and we sold him to Chelsea. Then he was pretty average for the rest of his career (assuming he's not still playing).

Kante and Mahrez are top quality, Vardy probably the next bracket down. Those three are all top six quality players for me.

Devil-Dick Willie
The 2 Senegalese lads Newcastle had. Dember Ba and Papiss Cisse. Sunderland in 2010/11 Nuri Sahin in 2010/11. A bit like Charlie Adam. Never exactly dire afterwards, but nowhere near that god tier. Andre Arshavin.
