Your Countries Best World Cup XI

Seaman

Neville - Ferdinand - Terry - Cole

 Hargreaves/Carrick - Lampard

Beckham - Rooney - Gerrard

Owen

As you can see I've struggled to make some choices there 😂 I think Lampard was a better deeper midfielder than Gerrard and probably could have worked together under those circumstances. Always thought Carrick was criminally underused.

Rooney could push on with Owen and Gerrard could be afforded a freer role not consigned to the left wing, more for defensive shape if anything.

Obviously no Scholes, I think retiring so early takes him out of the equation.

I'm sure the Germans, Spaniards and Brazilians will enjoy this topic more than the English 😂 Everyone will enjoy it more than the Scottish

In terms of performances for Australia and considering we made the WC in 74 (wasn't born) and then 06, it's going to be a fairly recent side.

                        Schwarzer

Wilkshire  Neill    Moore     Chipperfield

Emerton    Grella    Bresciano    Kewell

                            Cahill

                            Viduka

Basically the 06 side. Aloisi unlucky to miss out, as was Culina.

If we had that 06 side now - I'd bet on us to go through to the second round.

I would say there can be 2 Australian World Cup sides. Obviously the quality team and the historical one. If you're thinking the latter, Alston HAS to be in, but he was a semi-pro so you wouldn't include him in the other team.

Since we're making our own rules, here is my NON World Cup team in my life.

Butron

Solano - Reynoso - Zambrano - Vargas

Del Solar - Jayo

Soto ----------------- Palacios

Fano - Pizarro

What thread may that be? Not sure Bramble made the World Cup but if Blue is going to make his own rules then so shall I.

100% top team with a number of World Class players in there.

didn't know you advocated drug cheats mate?

Guerrero is nowhere near a world class player.

But today Quiroga, Chumpitaz, Cubillas, Sotil and Oblitas would all be playing for the world's best clubs!  Actually Sotil is a Barça legend.

Seaman

Neville Campbell Ferdinand Cole

Beckham Lampard Scholes Gerrard

Owen Shearer

Midfield would have to be a diamond like they used to use. Everyone used to moan about being able to fit Lampard, Scholes and Gerrard in but they've not had anyone since good enough to take any of their places

Yep. If not further. Even though we were a really strong side there we still felt like underdogs with it being our first WC in so many years.

If we had that side going into our fourth WC in a row we'd feel like potential quarter finalists.

GK - Eduardo

RB - Miguel

CB - Carvalho

CB - Meira

LB - Coentrão

DM - Costinha

CM - Maniche

AM - Deco

RW - Figo

LW - Ronaldo

FW - Nuno Gomes

I abstained myself of including any of the players that will play, tomorrow, their first WC match.

Eduardo ahead of Ricardo for me. Only conceded one goal in 2010 and Villa was off-side.

I left out Pepe, because in 2010 he was used more as a defensive mid and in 2014 he was the one who started making things go to the dogs, by being sent-off against Germany.

The midfield of 2006 was brilliant and up front I preferred Nuno Gomes to Pauleta.

Firstly, correct it to - Country's

Secondly -

Seaman
Ferdinand --- Terry
G. Neville ------------------------ A. Cole
Carrick
Scholes ------ Gerrard
Lampard
Owen --- Rooney

Don't actually think Gary Neville was that great but he was just consistent. Carrick has gotten to the point that he's actually overrated rather than underrated but he obivously should've played more and probably the best we had in that position but England unfortunately didn't find out about defensive midfielders or formations other than a flat 4-4-2 until probably 5 years ago...
