I'll stop moaning when officials start being better at their jobs

No offence mate you're one of my favourite members on here  you know that. But you would moan if there are any mistakes.

They've got video assistant officials to help them now, the margin for error in their job should be tiny, they deserve anyone moaning against their mistakes when millions of people at home can see what they've done wrong and they refuse to see it.

They are highly trained professionals. A lot of people try to become referees and cant get to that level so I'd be confident it isnt as easy as you make out.

I don't see why VAR has to be the same as the referees that are expected to go on the pitch & why it can't just be a room full of nerds that study the rulebook constantly like @RandoEFC once suggested

Because they wouldn't get enough decisions right. What your not taking into account is that a lot of the decisions are open to interpretation. And just because some fans don't  agree doesn't mean they are right. It's quite rare that they get a decisions wrong that everyone agrees is wrong. It happens but quite rare.  Also they have to make the decisions fast and under pressure. Despite what you think you wouldn't be able to do it without a lot of experience. In fact they have done tests to see if ex footballers can do better. What they found was that when they watch videos  and to determine a fowl  and they got more decisions wrong. And they've played the game.It should be fairly obvious that someone with a lot of training and experience as a referee would know  more than your average  fan

Ex-football players are often morons though, I'm not asking for more idiots to have a hand in making decisions xD

It's easy to determine a fowl.

There's been a formal request to have Iran banned from the World Cup.

I've got mixed feelings about it - because it's a bit different than with Russia and this Ukraine invasion. Most players on the Iran national team have made statements against the government and in support of the protestors - other than 2... and one of them is from a basiji family so I think he shouldn't get called up to the World Cup tbh. I think it's harsh on the players and harsh for a country that loves football and it's national team and doesn't have a lot of positive shit happening in the country going on right now otherwise.

On the other hand, because of how much people love football and the national team - and how it crosses sort of political lines... it could light a fire under people in areas that have protested less (the more rural areas) that are the bulk of the regimes supporters. But at the same time, I doubt it - they're the kind of people who would buy into the inevitable propaganda about how the international community is just against Iran.

Personally, I hope they're not banned. I love seeing Iran at the world cup even if they're never really expected to do much & it's something a lot of people have been looking forward to.

FIFA will use this as a "we did something good" coin to show how they view what's happening in Iran. They need anything right now to showcase them in a better light and what better way than to pander to the masses with a team that for them really doesn't upset the apple cart of their showcase event too much.

Russia was banned for their invasion of Ukraine. Iran is both oppressing its own people and helping Russia in their invasion of Ukraine. I think that the right thing to do would be to ban Iran. Supporting murderous ruling regimes such as in Russia and Iran, shouldn't be accepted by FIFA and neither team should be participating at the World Cup in my opinion.

Hard to be excited about the world cup that may hold as the greatest example of corruption in sports.

From the moment this world cup was announced to be held in Qatar my love for the game first began to dim.

A leading Qatar ambassador said in an interview with German TV Station ZDF that homosexuality is "damage in the mind", and later abruptly ended the interview.

I plan to watch that ZDF documentary tomorrow. Can't wait to see the Rolex watches Rummenigge got for his lobbying for Qatar.

Hoeneß must have gotten a lot of presents as well, considering how strongly he defended Qatar in the last few weeks. Maybe they helped him to get out of prison early.

Well, Bayern get a shitload of sponsorship money from Qatar Airways, so that's not surprising. They even sneakily blocked the fan representative attempt to discuss the issue at the last year's annual member meeting. Kahn claiming that their partnership brought positive change to Qatar human rights and migrant workers issues but not being able to give any specific examples was pretty amusing though.

Can't wait until they fuck off to the Superleague.

Ah man. Gutted for Mane, he's one of the good guys. If true, it's a real shame given how decent Senegal were looking on paper and how proud he is of where he comes from.

That's a big miss for Senegal obviously, but generally just for the World Cup itself because of how good he is.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hardly. Big miss for senegal but it's like missing slovakia when Hamsik was on fire in 2014,  or missing Zlatan 2014. In the grand scheme of things that team wasn't gonna shake shit up anyways who it's not really a big miss. Im more sad potentially good teams like Italy miss out than a good player in a filler team.

The team may not have, but Mane is quite clearly a quality player and will be missed :what:

Senegal did enough to qualify from their continent, so I think it's a bit harsh to call them a 'filler' team. Italy themselves could be classed as filler considering their shit-show 2010 and 2014, and then not even qualifying for this tournament. Bad example there.

Hard to show that talent when your team sucks and can't get the ball at his feet.
