Subscriber nudge+ Posted May 9, 2022 Subscriber Share Posted May 9, 2022 Things have taken a sudden violent turn in Sri Lanka today, with the situation getting out of the hand and escalating quickly after pro-government bands attacked the protesters this morning. Nationwide curfew has been imposed again (which is being largely ignored by the general public). Peaceful protests and demonstrations are now turning into riots, and houses/businesses of several current and former members of the parliament are being set on fire by the angry mob. One of the MPs opened fire at people blocking his vehicle killing two of them, and then apparently committed suicide afterwards. The PM has resigned.

Likely to see more of this around the globe this year. It's by far more complicated than that. Basically a complete economic mismanagement by a corrupt ruling dynasty. Ongoing trade deficit, irresponsible fiscal policies including crazy tax cuts and heavy money printing, massive external debts, shifting to 100% organic farming, and just straight out corruption and crony capitalism. Of course COVID and now Russia-Ukraine war made things worse, but that's not the primary cause of the shit show that is happening here now.

Rucksackfranzose
That violent Schalke scum, that beat a Man City fan to coma at their CL meeting in 2019 has been sentenced to 2 years on parole and 35k personal injury compensation. The sentence is comparatively mild, because the court only found him guilty of dangerous assault instead of attempted murder as the public prosecutor demanded. This was like the most severe amd should be more jail time.

I really, really don't understand how someone can beat a person into a coma and not spend a single day in prison. I just read the article, and the main attacker is apparently an experience martial artist, which makes it even worse. To add to that, they even attacked his family, including women. Absolute scum.

Hope the public prosecutor lodge an appeal, and the sentence will be exacerbated.

It's why you will never curb violent crime...
