I'm the opposite. I'm much more comfortable working at home and don't get annoyed/distracted by noise, coworkers or any other stuff so I'm by far more efficient. I also love being able to plan my working hours myself.

When I work from home, my normal colleagues are replaced with 2 cats that won’t leave me alone xD

I’ve always been able to get more work done at the office. I’m one of those people that likes to have set boundaries between their work life and home life (even though several times a week I’ll need to take work back with me); I wish I was someone who worked better from home though as it’s obviously the most comfortable place for me... as it’s home

Hey nudge you are turning into a Yankie - the only times I have ever heard the word coworkers has been from young American Students who seem to think that colleagues is not a word in their vocabulary.

To me the word colleague implies a degree of camaraderie whereas a co-worker just indicates a person who works at the same office. I was certainly not meaning the former when I talked about annoyances

But yeah I’m also hoping this shows people that not all meetings need to be meetings and some can be emails

Same boat as @nudge (lucky me).

I can't ever see myself working in an office full-time again after having the experience of being home-based.

I work much better planning my own time and we have quite flexible hours to work in (it's not strict 9-5). My routine is 8.30 - 4.30 but it could be be 10-6 if I want to. As long as I do my hours and get my work done, there's no issue.

Whenever I do go in to the office I now realise I end up spending so much time catching up with people I don't regularly see and most of the time is not spent doing work.

Totally misunderstood what I was trying to say - My intention was totally to support what you are having to do against the outside adults who are probably causing you more problems than the kids.  The assessment idea is only new to those who have never had to do it or consider writing an end of term report.

Apologies if it was my old-fashioned logic which gave you the wrong impression - sometimes even us wrinklies can get frustrated at what Councils and politicians are doing to interfere with education rather than just shutting up and supporting those at the sharp end!  The best head I ever worked under had two bins in his office - one was for all the stuff the local authority sent him and which normally was full of unopened envelopes.  Times, I assume, have not really changed since then!

We all have to make judgements on students throughout their time at school but they don't care until it's an actual GCSE or A Level grade. A lot of them think that we can just "give them grade X" now and we won't if they don't deserve it because we're professional. The same kids and most of their parents will kick off and we'll be legally obliged to let them appeal and provide evidence and it's going to be a total nightmare.

I hope you're wrong, but whatever the outcome enjoy the job and the life - I kept going until my mid 70's and then only stopped full time so that I could continue the odd weeks in Gelsenkirchen. Never regretted it for a minute and even now I still keep in touch and visit whenever I can.

Told to work from home today. Didn't discover until I tried it that the laptop was not properly set up so I've just had to salvage whatever I can from emails. Same again tomorrow. Should enjoy it I supppse but I hate being sat here waiting for time to pass or something to happen. Only so much I can do and it's not fair on my colleagues as well as they're still going full pelt.

Hate the WFH thing. Enjoy the boundaries and contrast of being at work and being at home. Can't get on with the two mixing. Doesn't help I usually have a shocking attention span and no-one's around at home to keep me in line xD

Started working from home yesterday. It's ok but the lack of chatting with colleagues in the office and general socialising is not great. Having two dogs does help kind.

My old man is under threat of redundancy as well as he works in a hotel.

Also, supermarkets and supply chains are confirming that they're buckling under the strain of the thick fucking cunts.

Cheers you thick fucking cunts.

Italy have now got the largest number of deaths from this disease and surpassed China for the largest death toll. It's not looking like letting up either. To everyone on the European continent stay safe.

The situation in Lombardy right now "is similar to what we experienced two months ago in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of COVID-19," the Chinese Red Cross vice president, Sun Shuopeng, said Thursday in a press conference in Milan, Italy.

"In the city of Wuhan after one month since the adoption of the lockdown policy, we see a decreasing trend from the peak of the disease," Sun Shuopeng said. "Here in Milan, the hardest hit area by COVID-19, there isn't a very strict lockdown: public transportation is still working and people are still moving around, you're still having dinners and parties in the hotels and you're not wearing masks. We need every citizen to be involved in the fight of COVID-19 and follow this policy.”

He advised Italians to stop all “economic activities and cut the mobility of people.”

Everyone should just stay at home, he added.

This guy is deluded. Italy has gone the furthest you can go in our kind of society. You can't stop the whole economy for months. It's insane.

So Boris says we will “turn the tide within the next 12 weeks” which not only sounds ridiculously optimistic, but he was vague as fuck to what he actually meant by it.

Such a weird thing to announce on a whim. Gives more questions and doubts than hope I think.

Is there a link anywhere to a simple description of some sort as to how China managed to stamp this thing out?

This isn't entirely the reason why, but one of my favourite Youtube channels made a video of the sort of thing China is capable of doing.

That is surpringsly considering that China has almost double the amount of cases.

Iran is also has a horrendous ratio of Confirmed Cases to Death.
