nudge Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Not sure about best, but Apollo 13 is my favourite, followed by Road to Perdition.
Moderator Tommy Posted August 15, 2021 Moderator Posted August 15, 2021 Performance wise probably Captain Philipps. The acting in the scene when he gets examined by the doctor is outstanding. But I love all of his films (apart the Da Vinci Code ones).
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted August 15, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 15, 2021 I can't pick which one would be his best as they are all good, but he won an Oscar for Forrest Gump so I would imagine that would be one of his best films.
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted August 15, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 15, 2021 I'm with Tommy on Captain Phillips, he was superb in that. I also like his little mental breakdowns and ticks in Cast Away when he realizes he needs a friend and Wilson is really his only friend at the time.

Fun story, when I went to see Apollo 13 as a kid with my family, I sat down at the cinema and was pricked by a needle from a used syringe on the seat... I didn't say anything to my parents until after the film - but afterwards I had to go see a doctor and get bloodwork done. At the time, I didn't realise it... because I was pretty young... but I think they had to take my blood to check to see if I'd been given HIV or not. Then we didn't go to see films at the cinema for fucking years after that because of some inconsiderate junky leaving his shit around. But as a result, I don't really remember much about the movie and the words "Apollo 13" remind me of syringes.

Administrator Stan Posted August 15, 2021 Administrator Posted August 15, 2021 Does Green Mile count as one of his films? If so, that.

Although I just a a funny picture in my head, with young Dr. Gonzo in the cinema thinking "well, you're not the only one" when Tom Hanks said "Houston, we have a problem."
Eco Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 I'd saying Apollo 13 and Saving Private Ryan are the top 2. I love the old ones too, like Big, Sleepless in Seattle, Splash, League of their Own. I actually never saw, Captain Phillips.

I usually watch it around Christmas every year, because Christmas is an important factor in this movie.
Rick Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Apollo 13 is my favourite by far, I love that film.
Devil Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Amazing his list of movies, people are mentioning films I'd forgot about. Philadelphia, now that was an amazing film. Forest Gump is my personal favourite though.
Subscriber Viva la FCB+ Posted August 16, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 16, 2021 Thats a real hard one to nail down. Probably my personal favourite is Road to Perdition as well.

Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted August 17, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 17, 2021 Just remembered Big (1988), me and the wife laughed our socks off with that one.

He's not the proper main guy in it though whereas all the other films listed had been. But it's one of my favourite films regardless
