I don't care that much about "distasteful humour" amongst colleagues/friends but if it actually negatively affected how they do their job, then there's a real problem.

I don't think it can be denied that there always needs to be improvements made when it comes to recruitment and regular reviews of an officer's outlook and motivation when it comes to the job their doing.

The police can't win here, they are either racist if they act and incompetent if they don't.

In some areas the demographics of crime are surprising and this influences the stop and search.

When someone is on trial, they are on trial for that crime no mention of previous history. History is only taken into account after a verdict and then if they use sentences longer than those stipulated they are obligated to state why.  To prevent retrials or sentences being overturned.

Certainly not perfect and some bias may creep in yet guidelines reduce that possibility I would hesitate to call it racist.

Some problems occur if you disrespect the court, by swearing, interrupting etc, etc. That happens whether you are black or white and can increase sentences.

One area of weakness in the system is the ability to hire good barristers as they are often expensive.

Is this the strip search thing? It's mental that things manage to get to that point without the perpetrator stopping and thinking "hang on, this doesn't seem right". Even more so when the Met have had so much bad press lately. Doesn't it make them more conscious of doing stuff that's going down the same road?

This one is a really messed up incident. If your average nobody can tell you that something like this should never have happened, it beggars belief that it can end up happening following all of the safeguarding training and stuff police have to go through before going on duty.

On the topic of the English police, did anyone watch that doco? Where the journo goes undercover in police training and basically half his training bunch are hoping to abuse their power in racist ways? It's called the secret policeman. 

Here in Australia they're a bunch of hopless and grubby cunts too. Heaps of racism, fuck all psychological support, units of police being used to suppress journalists. The usual western culture really.

I can't remember where I first heard or saw it but a police officer approaches a woman in the street to tell her off for something she did and she gave him a load of verbals... The officer told her "she should respect the law" and she promptly replies, " If you want me to respect the law you first have to make the law respectable"

David Carrick, 48, pleaded guilty to 49 offences, including 24 counts of rape.

His offences spanned 2003 to 2020 and most took place in Hertfordshire, where he lived.

Carrick admitted four counts of rape, false imprisonment and indecent assault, relating to a 40-year-old woman in 2003, at Southwark Crown Court on Monday.

It can now be reported that Carrick had already pleaded guilty to 43 charges, including 20 counts of rape, in December.

Carrick, who would meet the women on dating apps or in social situations, served with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.

He admitted raping nine women, some on multiple occasions over months or years, with many of those attacks involving violence that would have left them physically injured.

After his first guilty pleas, the Met stopped his pay and began an accelerated misconduct process, with a hearing due to take place on Tuesday.

Det Ch Insp Iain Moor, from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said the "sheer number of offences" showed Carrick's "prolific and callous nature".

He said he expects even more victims to come forward.

I'm a bit suspicious when they investigate issues with the police. A few years ago when they had the riots in Bristol the police were cleared of wrong doing. I've heard from quite a few people who went that the police made it worse and it could of been avoided. There may have been a second more independent investigation I'm not to sure but there was definitely one where they were cleared which I'm not sure I believe

I was deliberating creating a new thread as Matt isnt in a million years worth being remotely associated with the people that have been bought up in this thread previously, that never should have been given the opportunity to become Police Officers.

I knew Matt personally for five years and (unfortunately you reflect on things like this when someone passes away) I feel privileged to have called him a friend. And this news feels a bigger relief than I anticipated.

When someone passes you always hear the best stories about someone, but with Matt every good story you heard was absolutely true. I dont think ill ever meet someone that takes so much pride over seeing other people develop again.

Let's assume that during an average shift, a front line responding officer turns on their camera five times (its nine or more in an area like Croydon).

According to the Home Office, there were 117,132 police officers employed in front line policing roles in England and Wales as of 31 March 2023. This is 91.1% of all police officers

Around 7,000 police officers parade each day for a shift are responding officers answering 999 calls.

7,000 each day, is 5,110,000 over a two-year period. Let's assume that each officer turns on their body-worn camera five times. 5x5,110,000 = 25,550,000. 

So, roughly, 999 or 101 responders (not including other units who are also on the front line like crime squads) activated their cameras around 25,000,000 times during the two year period outlined by the BBC. 

25,000,000 divided by 150 = 0.0006% of cases.
