I'd say the league is more competitive now if anything, certainly the standard of football, fitness etc has increased. From the 70's to the 00's, English football was largely dominated by Liverpool and Utd, with Leeds Utd having a decent spell as well. Now you have City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs all competing to a certain degree. I definitely think the standard is largely better now than what it was. The top 6 are far and away ahead of anything else. Back in the 60s 70s teams could compete from anywhere, now it's just about money. The standard is better but it's far less competitve. Having one dominant club doesn't always mean the league is uncompetitive. You're better looking at points gaps for that.

LFCMadLad
We are about to start negotiations to tie down Joel Matip to a new contract. Excellent news. Hes been excellent for us for a while now and deserves an improved contract. Not bad for a free transfer.

LFCMadLad
Van Dijk won the UEFA POTY fairly comfortably in the end 1 Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool & Netherlands) – 305 points 2 Lionel Messi (Barcelona & Argentina) – 207 points 3 Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus & Portugal) – 74 points Looks like he will probably win the Ballon d'or. The Artful Dodger
It's a uefa award purely based on Champions league (or I suppose europa too) so I think it's more likely to go to someone who won it? Balon d'or is for everything.

Harry
The most recent memories of what the players are doing taints perception though. If Liverpool haven't kept a single clean sheet in their first 15 games I'll bet vvd doesn't win.

Messi had obviously been very much that but VVD was pivotal also, and his natural calm is hugely important to the mental strength of the team. If Messi doesn't win it it'll be because Barca were seen to fall down in important games, and I think some responsibility rests with the captain when that occurs.
