The Big Lebowski - 5/10

probably not a popular opinion but I really didn't enjoy this. I don't know if this was becase I was too tired after watching the above but I didn't even watch it til the end. Got bored of the overly strong American accents of 'The Dude' and the big Lebowski character. And the shouting Walter character got on my nerves too. I'm not sure if it was meant to have any comedic value to it or what it was even meant to be. The only worthwhile bit was this:

Stan, you're out of your element!

Ride Along - 5/10

Not as funny as I thought it'd be. Bit of overkill from Kevin Hart's character as the annoying side-kick. Obviously the predictable ending as ever with those types of characters.

'La Isla Mínima (Marshland)'

8.5/10

One of the best serial killer movies. If you haven't then I urge you to watch Memories of Murders, as well.

@Big Lebowski.

It is a genius of a movie.

@topic.

Watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Absolute bore of a movie with few interesting gimmicks.

Maybe it's a culture thing to be fair. But I can't imagine watching scary movie and thinking "is this meant to be a horror or a comedy"

Someone never watched the Evil Dead unaware.

It is. Tree rape was supposed to be edgy and scary. Remember the film was made with $10, student actors and the best camera they could scrounge.

I know that now but my point was that I didn't know that going into the movie blind.

Watched 'Sachin a Billion Dreams', the biopic on Sachin Tendulkar's life.  Essential viewing if you are a fan of the man or cricket in general. Gives a peek into his life.

The only minus point is Sachin continuing to not call out players involved in Match fixing. He claims in the movie that he didn't know anything, when Tehelka's (a media organisation) sting tapes say otherwise. The then coach, Wadekar, came to him with the knowledge that Azhar and Jadeja were going to throw their wicket and try to lose against New Zealand. Sachin promised the coach that he will win those 2 matches, and went to accomplish that. The man is too nice and refuses to call out the likes of Azhar.

Anyway, it was a good watch overall.

Aside from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I've seen some pretty bang average movies recently. Really has been a slog watching them.

But I did see Get Out. And whether it was because I'd seen so many gash films, I felt this one was a real hit.

The film is genuinely eerie. Instead of cheesy music and grotesque torture porn, the director relies on the unknown to draw you in and make you think, what is happening here? The plot builds like a slow boil to a terror explosion. Clues to the outcome are evident from the first second, but it takes the entire run-time to pull everything together. It knows what it wants to say and how to say it, balancing wildly contrasting tones and defeating potential clichés with stylistic bravura.

Of course everything stems from a rock solid script, where the plot points are cunningly engineered. It's such a joy to be surprised by a horror outcome. It's refreshing to see a Horror/Thriller genre film that is quite inventive than the textbook bloodbath/slasher/supernatural/camcorder view movies that are being repeatedly. The resolve in Get Out is truly satisfying.

I also thought the choice of actors were quite thoughtful. There's a lot to like, but beyond the deeper themes; the characters aren't moronic and behave behave logically, especially the lead character Chris. Something is amiss, enough to warrant wariness. Anyone in this situation would be unnerved as events play out.

Definitely worth a watch.

John Wick 2. Keanu Reeves doesn't seem to be aging at all. He's 52 but physically he's just like he was in the Matrix. Same think I could say about Morpheus. I think they are both immortal ph34r.png

(Loved the movie just like the first one)

Watched 'Wonder Woman'. A bit of a mess at times and predictable, but a massive improvement for DC from Man of Steel and that terrible Batman vs Superman. The reason is largely down to Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, both of whom are likeable with good chemistry. A decent story and nice execution. Even though the last main villain fight wasn't special, but the movie was highly enjoyable. Lynda Carter has a worthy successor.
