Isn't that the same thing Chelsea got the ban for??

Aye, but what's good for the goose (Man City) ain't good for the gander (Chelsea).

Chelsea was sanctioned by Fifa in February for breaching rules in relation to 29 youth players and were fined £460,000 in addition to their transfer ban.

In June the Blues, who were not allowed to make any signings in the summer transfer window, announced they were taking their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, having failed with their first appeal to Fifa.

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has had surgery on his right knee in Barcelona after being carried off in the 4-0 win over Brighton.

Laporte damaged his cartilage and lateral meniscus in a challenge with Brighton defender Adam Webster.

The operation was successful but City have not yet given an indication of how long the 25-year-old will be out.

Laporte made 35 league appearances last season with Bernardo Silva the only City outfield player to play more.

The injury ruled him out of a possible debut for France after he had been called up by coach Didier Deschamps for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra.

Laporte's absence leaves City with just Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as central defenders following the departure of Vincent Kompany to become player-manager of Anderlecht in the summer.

Nobody seems to be talking about this Laporte injury. I think it's potentially massive. Last season their biggest weakness was a lack of cover for Fernandinho. Now it's the fact they only have one top quality centre half and now he's injured. Stones and Otamendi are vulnerable. Cancelo can apparently play in central defence but it isn't his first position.

How long's he out for? Tbh I think City will do fine even with a slightly more porous defense. That squad's able to deal with some challenges that might otherwise derail another side's season.

I agree. City are so good going forward, I thenk they could beat almost every team in the league bar one without a CB fit.

Bastards lol

Think you's are overestimating City's defence a bit. They've got great fullbacks but I still think that the CB position is something they could and should have improved on. Outside of Laporte would you say any of the other centrebacks are top class? Stone is the closest to it, but even he has his moments.

Said it time and time again, you get at this City defence and they will wobble. Hopefully Norwich play a bit mad today and give us a good spectacle.

John Stones: Man City defender suffers muscle injury

Manchester City and England defender John Stones will be out for between four and five weeks after suffering a muscle injury in training.

Stones suffered the injury in Ukraine on Tuesday, where City are preparing for Wednesday's Champions League group game with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The injury is a setback for City, who are also without Aymeric Laporte until January or February because of injury.

It leaves City with one established central defender in Nicolas Otamendi.
