Spike Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Short run, not as successful as I'd have liked but my knees started aching and I didn't want to injure myself on the first day back into it. Only did a splash above a mile. At least it is a pleasant day. 4', sun shining, dry, which is better than -14', cloudy, wet/snow. Quote

I was quite injury prone in the past but had a recurring injury that was always there for a good few years, basically pain in my lower shins but more the whole ankle area. Sometimes it would play up, other times it would be OK. Went to physio and quickly learnt how important stretching was, I've introduced some stretching to my daily life and the pain has gone. I don't even have to stretch that regularly either, the more exercise, the more stretching. Of course be careful not to overstretch! I remember reading once that Drogba use to stretch for four hours a day or something crazy like that to avoid injuries as he was sick of getting them early on in his career. Of course, he would have had a specific plan made for him by the specialists at the club. Edited March 10, 2018 by carefreeluke 1 Quote

I always have a warm up and cool down walk that includes light stretching. I always make sure I never finish a work out tired, always catch my breath and do some cool down exercises. So far I haven't had a severe injury, the occasional tweak or ache but nothing that doesn't disappear within a day or two. Quote
Cicero Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 I don't do distance running anymore as it's less effective than HIIT, but I always spend 20-30 minutes stretching after my workout. I would also suggest using foam rollers to to break up any adhesions in your muscles. And in etween running days, light cycling just to get some blood flowing in your legs. Quote

I'm real fucking unfit so all I do is HIIT. I'm doing a couch to 5k program right now. 5 hours ago, Cannabis said: I'm in the same boat as you (the winter part, not the Mrs bit). I stopped running throughout December to enjoy the build up to Christmas and do what I wanted with the plan on starting back in January. The trouble is that between January-March it's been absolutely freezing, to the point of severe snow and whatnot so it's killed my motivation. It's sunny today for example but knowing that it'll probably be freezing again and stop any sort of rhythm I build up. Fingers crossed I'm up to speed by the start of summer when all the 10K's/Half Marathons kick off. Aye, but it does sound like you're in a better boat than me to start. I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life, I'm probably pushing 90kg. I used to be around 70kg when I moved to USA. Quote

Toinho Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Speaking of running, I only lasted to half time of my FFA cup football match yesterday. 1pm kick off in mad heat, add a little hangover and no training and I was hanging on to dear life. Quote

carefreeluke Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 This is why Darts is class. World Championship, serious as anything, could be a final and you get players coming in like this. 1 Quote
Inverted Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Since I started working on my dissertation I've put on a little weight, I might need to start looking at getting back into a bit of proper exercise. Normally I get enough exercise just by walking, since my commute has a 20 minute walk either way, and I normally do a lot of walking during a day in uni. But since classes finished a few weeks ago I've been working from home mostly, eating a bit more, and only exercising with a bit of push-ups and that in the house. I fucking hate running and I have zero stamina, but I still prefer it to the gym. Quote
NialP Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) Hi all I've been getting getting into betting recently, and was wondering if anyone else has an answer to a quick question I've got. Are winnings from betting classed as income? My income is on the borderline of the higher tax band according to this online calculator, and I don't want to end up paying tons more tax because I made a bit more money Cheers in advance Nial Edited March 13, 2018 by NialP I can't spell Quote

I admire your optimism though Quote
