This was supposed to be tests for the team and the system we were going to play at the tournament. Now it's just a waste of time. Gareth Southgate is manager as well, no Premier League team would want him but this is the man that's supposed to bring together uninterested players and get them playing... Danny Posted November 11, 2017 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Don't take this as a direct comparison because it's not, but in terms of Loftus-Cheek's style and body shape watching him play is reminiscent of watching Zidane play. Tall player, fairly strong for someone so skillful, great footwork, keeps the ball close to him and doesn't rely on his pace to catch up with it. He doesn't express his football freely nor does he force himself to always be involved, like Zaha does. I suppose it could come with experience, but he needs a massive confidence boost and in this particular case, an ego. Instead of a bond, it was just a mere mutual respect with one another given their competitiveness for their club and the fact they all played in the premier league vs other nations in the world. What an absolutely terrible message to send out going into a World Cup - acceptance of failing in one of the easiest groups we could've asked for. You can't use the World Cup to practice for the future as they aren't frequent enough, this is the real thing - if we seriously can't come above fucking Tunisia and Panama then how on earth can you argue that we're moving in any kind of right direction? We've got a better squad than we had two years ago. We've actually got a lot of players playing well on the continent which is the first time in years you can say that's the case. I actually don't get what goes through these peoples heads at times. What an absolutely ridiculous thing to come out with. Covering our arses incase we don't better Tunisia absolutely unbelievable. And Neville looks a prize cunt now for his comments. That said, things were different back in 2011 when he first made one of them comments. He was a professional footballer, captain of his club and probably still a bit naïve (like all footballers are) to realise the consequence of posting such tweets that could be considered offensive. He isn't the first footballer/sport star/celebrity to be undone by something they said in the past and he won't be the last. We all say tongue in cheek comments on a regular basis but because he's in the public eye, he'd be more scrutinised. I don't think it's Neville's true thoughts now anyway. He obviously wanted the job and let's be fair, if he wanted to, he could probably be a coach at a PL club and get paid way more than what he's being paid as England Woman's manager. But clearly he really wanted the job so obviously has no issue with women's football. The only people who should be getting abuse at present are The FA, who’ve undermined Women’s Football by appointing someone who’s criminally inexperienced for the role. I don't know a lot about our u21s/u20s/u17s etc these days which is a shame as I could name most of our previous u21 sides when they weren't winning anything , so may have left out some bigger younger names. But I'm just looking at this tournament as well and seeing who Southgate will keep around for the next two tournaments to act as the spine.
