Administrator Stan Posted August 12, 2017 Author Administrator Posted August 12, 2017 Deadlock broken. Mistake by Stephens. City pounce and Aguero slots it in.

I said whether it's down to FSG or Klopp Oh come on Mike, you take every little opportunity to take a dig at them. In this case the money has been made available by them, it's the manager and recruitment team that have managed to balls things up.

carefreeluke Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Lampard spot on, Chelsea shouldn't have went 3-0, our reaction after the sending off was awful. Good to see Conte comment on it as well: Quote 'We lost our composure after this red card and we have to improve a lot in this aspect.'
Dave Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Everything I thought would happen actually happened. Embarrassing.

For some unknown reason - not that anything he has done makes sense anyway - De Boer played him on the right in the first half. He did what he could. On the second half common sense prevailed and Townsend went right and he played in the middle. We had more of the ball in the second half as he's quite an imposing figure. I'd give him a 6.5/10 which is significantly better than virtually everybody else that played. Not that playing in an uncomfortable system that neglects the basic fundamentals of defending helps.
Storts Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I watched the Palace game and the Chelsea game. Loftus-Cheek was pretty good second half, very comfortable on the ball and went past players well from deep. Thought Zaha was woeful, held on to the ball for far too long and very wasteful. Back 5 were shaky and the team seemed very far out their depth. De Boer has a lot of work to do implementing his ideas. Huddersfield full value for their win
Dickie Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Well Huddersfield already has proved me wrong....

I'll have to watch the incidents back but I haven't experienced that much hostility towards a referee at Stamford Bridge since Ovrebo. Cahill's controversially sent off yes but the mentality of our players after that in the first half was dreadful, absolutely dreadful and that's what ultimately lost us the game in my opinion. This isn't knee jerk as I've questioned the mentality and quality of some these players on numerous occasions last season as well, there's no way the team of Lampard, Terry, Cole, Ballack, Cech etc would have conceded three there, there's no way they would have let Arsenal come back in that Community Shield game, and there's no way they would have performed like our current squad did in the first half of the FA Cup final. We were more than capable of beating Burnley with ten, all Burnley did was put three crosses in the box and scored three goals, we cannot defend a cross to save our lives at the moment. Worse thing is, it's so obvious Burnley play that way as well, long direct balls and crosses into the box, defend that and they don't have much else. Of course the board haven't helped either but any team we put out today should have been capable of beating Burnley, in fact I still would have fancied us with ten men. Also, the standard of football in the match today was border line Sunday league at times. Not half...

I'm also happy for Morata as the Burnley players were after him the minute he got on the pitch, after a few failed attempts he was eventually flattened by one of them. He then went on to score and assist a goal.

Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted August 12, 2017 Subscriber Posted August 12, 2017 I mentioned this in another thread but I'll mention it again here, I can't begin to understand why so many people are jumping on Aguero's back. He got injured last season and Jesus came in and scored a few goals now suddenly Aguero's finished and Jesus should be first choice. Aguero's stats: 2011-12 - 30 goals in 48 2012-13 - 17 goals in 40 2013-14 - 28 goals in 34 2014-15 - 32 goals in 42 2015-16 - 29 goals in 44 2016-17 - 33 goals in 45 Just because nobody's paid £70 million for him in the last few years doesn't mean he's not still easily one of the best five strikers in the league.
6666 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Chelsea definitely have just cause to be pissed at the referee. Chill should've just gotten a yellow and the referee is a joke for the first yellow for Fabregas. Oh well.

Regardless of intent if you're not giving a red there something is wrong. Potential leg breaker. Fabregas was petulant as always, his sarcastic clap is a clear yellow, has been for a long time and the ref is just applying the laws of the game. Second yellow is blatant. Don't really see what the ref did wrong.
Cicero Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Burnley player made a similar challenge and only got a yellow

Don't get me wrong, he was good, but if they were creaming over him then they must have got so upset about our performance they were battered. Everybody here knows what I think about our bollocks idea of playing everybody out of position, and our fixture congestion for the first eight games, and what I perceive happens after that. So instead I'll comment about Huddersfield... Theyre different to Blackpool. When Blackpool stuffed Wigan 4-0 it was because they relied on momentum. It was ten men behind the ball then as many men as forward as possible. That's because Ollie relied on momentum and not tactical knowledge. Huddersfield are different. Wagner didn't have to do much homework but he realized under De Boers one natural center back policy we didn't defend set pieces much since staying up. So every ball wasn't quick, or on the floor, or dangerous, it was slow floating deliverys that fucked us. Then defensively they were solid. They allowed Zaha an extra yard on the edge of the side of the box because they knew in those positions he wouldn't attack, he would look for a penalty. They had one player near Benteke a all times because he doesn't run, and the other defender acts as a sweeper and intercepts (I counted seven) balls that with a lucky bounce could end up falling to someone that scores. Tactically, if Wagner has a squad that can vary to more situations, they're finishing above fourteenth. On a seperate note the way our 'famous atmosphere' handled themselves today was less than desirable. If they start singing the usual songs against Brighton you'll see a media campaign switch against them.

Huddersfield full value for their win I don't think they showed it on Motd but I was fuming at Zaha in the first half because at one point, when he wasn't on the edge of the box, he received a brilliant through ball and his natural instinct was a slow first touch and look for contact. A top seven player, or an inform Dwight Gayle, Glenn Murray, Andy Johnson in his prime would have knocked that first touch three yards towards the goal and hit it with his second. I really thought he came on leaps and bounds last season to the point where he's ready to be guided by Pochettino to progress in to a class player but when I see childish, arrogant, primadonna shit like that I wish we carried on Simon Jordan's academy investments (we've not had one academy player join since January 2010 make the first team) so we could have other players to brag about being 'one of our own'.
Toony Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Not confident today I must admit, Rafa sounds like a miserable fucker every time he does an interview and is very frustrated by the lack of transfer business. I think he'll do what Brighton did last night, set up and be tough to break down, but I don't think we've got the players to hold them out for 90 minutes and I don't think we've got the players to hurt them offensively either. Newcastle 0-2 Tottenham
