Premier League referees won't be in charge so it should work better. Can't argue against ideas to make sure the right decisions are made or at the very least, referees knowing exactly what they're making a decision on.

God knows what they've seen between originally trialling it and now to decide it's worth throwing into the greatest sporting competition on the planet.

The plethora of correct decisions it's made, and incorrect ones it's overturned, I'd imagine?

FIFA president Gianni Infantino admits the use of video assistant referees is not foolproof and may cause controversy at the 2018 World Cup.

Infantino believes the implementation of VAR, which was rubber-stamped for use at the World Cup by the FIFA council last month, was a necessary measure as the governing body looks to give its match officials every assistance in making correct decisions.

The VAR system has been trialled worldwide but its use in England has led to mixed reactions from players, managers and supporters, with those inside stadiums complaining of being in the dark while decisions are made.

In Field Hockey video referral can only be used in the penalty box/specific area, they should implement this in football the same way.

Stoping the play to check wether it was a handball or not in the middle of the pitch is useless.

All the game should be run by the Video Offical's relaying the correct information down to the on field Ref

What if a team is on a counter attack and the opposition claims handball the VAR shows there is no handball, so now what ?

The game would of played on while someone was looking at the tape ..if it was a handball the ball would of been called back to the spot of the offence

No, i wouldn't let the players or managers call anything, the game would be like it is now but the ref is constantly getting information from offical's in the VR room   ..id let the on field ref call fouls outside the box, if the linesman gets a wrong call on offside it's a free kick if the attacking team didn't score   ..the clock should stop too when the balls not in play doing away with extra time

Another step in the right direction.

The FIFA Referees Committee has selected 13 referees who will act solely as video assistant referees (VARs) during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

The selection criteria for these VARs were primarily based on their experience as video match officials in their respective association and confederation competitions, in addition to their successful participation in several preparatory seminars and FIFA competitions, where they enhanced their VAR knowledge and skills by using the system.

Each match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ will have a VAR together with three assistants, AVAR1, AVAR2, AVAR3 (for more information about the different roles and tasks of the VAR team please check fifa.com/VAR).

In addition to these 13 referees who will act solely as video assistant referees, some of the referees and assistant referees who have been selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ (see list published on 29 March using the link below) will also act as video match officials during FIFA’s flagship competition. These appointments will be confirmed before each match

I'm intrigued to see how it will be used in penalty shootouts. A very simple rule that the keeper must stay on his line is often broken and never enforced, will it be a re-take every time the keeper comes off his line? does the keeper get a yellow card if he keeps doing it?

Oh God. I can see it already. England finally win a shootout, but wait VAR says retake, England out.

good video, that.

Further emphasises that there was always going to be improvements of VAR from when it was first initiated due to constant advancements in technology.

In a relative short space of time, as they reference in the video, we've gone from seeing repetitive lines rendered on the pitch to determine offsides to now being able to have 3D visuals to acutely identify very tight offside calls. Just hope the technology works in a quick manner for the World Cup. Judging by the video, it looks like it will be fairly swift.

The worst thing about VAR & video replays at the World Cup is having to listen to pundits failing to wrap their head around replays not making decisions. The BBC pundits especially have been embarrassing.
