Results - Gameweek Two

A full set of Serie A fixtures in one afternoon means that this gameweek is concluded in swift, clinical fashion. However, one man on Santa's naughty list, and out of the competition before a ball was kicked is @Tommy who, after surviving the first gameweek, disappeared like Sebastien Vettel in a tight Formula 1 championship battle, and is eliminated for failing to make a pick. Elsewhere, it looked like a pretty routine week, with unfortunate slips for @Azeem and @StefBWFC, who strayed from this weekend's Neapolitan meta strategy, backing Milan and Atalanta respectively. The former were disappointing losers at home to Fiorentina, while Atalanta's "let's miss a penalty, score an own goal and get two men sent off" approach somehow led to them getting spanked 3-1 at Genoa. Whoopsie. Anyway, it still appeared to be a relatively successful week for the field at large until Chievo's injury time equaliser against Internazionale downed @Spike, @Stan and @Mel81x, doubling today's list of casualties.

Bad luck to our six casualties today, you have been eliminated from this round, scoring 1 point to be added to your overall league score. Keep an eye on your notifications for the start of our La Liga edition.

It was a week that favoured the low-risk approach, with the week's most popular picks, Napoli and Lazio, the only two sides that won today of those that received any backing. Lazio's comfortable 3-1 win delivering their fans a top four league placing at Christmas, and delivering @Panna King , @DeadLinesman, @Viva la FCB and @Rucksackfranzose into the third gameweek of the competition. Napoli's backers, @RandoEFC, @The Palace Fan, @Dr. Gonzo , @Lucas, @Storts, @...Dan and @José, were made to sweat a bit longer as Ancelotti's men were unable to muster up more than one goal against Spal, but one proved to be enough, and there are eleven men left standing as we head into Gameweek Three. Just two rounds in, and already less than half of the original 23 competitors remain. You have all now scored at least 2 points in this round, and are free to advance to the next set of fixtures to make your pick.

Bologna (4.75) vs Lazio (1.72)

It was fury for @RandoEFC, @The Palace Fan and @DeadLinesman as Fiorentina's festive failure, losing at home to Parma, eliminated the host, the league leader and the bald man from this edition of Last Man Standing. Vitor Hugo's red card put paid to the home side's chances after Roberto Inglese's late first half goal handed the visitors the advantage. It takes a special sort of luck to pick one of the two occasions where Juventus failed to win in the first 18 games in Serie A this season, but @José managed to achieve just that, the only man to back Juve against Atalanta. The champions of Italy suffered a dismissal of their own before falling behind, meaning that Cristiano Ronaldo's late goal was only good enough to steal a point. Bad luck guys, you are eliminated from this round of the Last Man Standing League with a score of 2 points.

The Italian festivities continue for some, as the field is now narrowed to single figures. A single Diego Farias goal was enough to see Cagliari and @Dr. Gonzo past Genoa. The trio of @Panna King, @Lucas and @Rucksackfranzose had Quagliarella and Sampdoria to thank for their progress to Gameweek Four after they dispatched Chievo 2-0, while the Boxing Day evening brought more reason for cheer. A late Sassuolo consolation goal was the only blot on Roma's copybook for the day, their 3-1 win carrying @Storts onto greater things, while @Viva la FCB and @...Dan had the most comfortable Gameweek Three of all, having backed Torino ahead of their 3-0 hammering of Empoli in Turin.

Congratulations on your progress. Please read on for your options heading into Gameweek Four.

Serie A has been suspended @RandoEFC - not sure how this impacts things

Has it? I see that the president has said they will consider it...no confirmation.
