Yep.

I used to be on contract and upgrade after the 12-24 month period had finished.

But if the phone is in perfectly good condition then really there's no reason to get stuck in to another contract on the same terms. I do SIM only as often there's better terms (data, mainly) and it's easier to get out of and change up if I did need a phone.

I remember paying about £50-60/m on a Samsung S6 I think it was, or an HTC Desire HD. The contract was near to an end so was in the period where I could upgrade or change the contract. The phone had no problems, slightly slower in performance but nothing too significant. So ended up going on a SIM only deal paying half the price but for more data and minutes.

Being honest have seen deals on sim only for between £20-£25 where texts, minutes and Internet is unlimited. This is great if you're able to get the phone at a good price. My mate recently decided to get a sim only, he purchased the Samsung S11+ brand new on Laptops Direct for £690. This was 6 weeks back, now if you can grab the phones for these type of prices it is 100% worth it long term.

Bought Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 around four months ago and i am super pleased with it. Also it was very cheap, i am not a big fan of mobile phones and i am usually not keen on spending a lot of money on them.

Bought a Redmi 8 today. Seems to be fantastic value for the price...

How are you affected now that Google are no longer supporting Huawei?

I loved my Huawei phone at first. But it's a nightmare now. Apps stopped working on it and I can;t even use my internet banking on it anymore as they have stopped supporting it.

I'm going to get a new upgrade though tomorrow as I've been due one for about 3 weeks. I'll see what they have on offer tomorrow but I definitely won't be getting another Huawei.

Upgraded my phone to a Huawei P30 Lite last week...

Pretty decent, Got facial recognition and Fingerprint ID and 3 cameras at the back...

My face and fingerprints have no doubt already found their way on to big brothers files..

Big mistake getting an Huawei phone if you ask me.

I always purchase the phone, works out so much cheaper. Forked out £1200 on the Xs Max 256gb about 6 months ago. A 3 year contract would have cost a fortune, somewhere in the region of £2500, whereas I’m on o2 with a £15 unlimited contract that rolls over month by month. Make a saving of about £600 over the 3 years and won’t need an upgrade till at least year 5.

Christ are you OK? I think I’d cry if I spent that much on a phone lol

After spending the last 4 years with an iPhone 5s I’ve just got the iPhone....wait for it.....6s. £30 upfront and about £25 a month, unlimited calls, texts and 8gb data on o2. Does all the other extra shit you need from a phone

I use it for work as well. Lots of gadgets, gizmos for measuring on site. I know there’s cheaper alternatives but I’m a slave to iOS and prefer it over android (tried the galaxy, hated it). Blatantly could have had the cheaper XR at £750 but I’m stupid and wanted the better, larger screen with more storage. I upgraded from the 6plus that I’d had for over 5 years so they always last me a fair while.

It's been ok so far... I don't use it for apps or a lot of internet etc just phone calls, photos and such and needed something with a lot more space and this had 128GB so seemed fairly decent for the monthly cost, I will let you know if I start having any issues with it though...

Does anybody have the new Samsung Galaxy Note? Have heard really good things about it.

Don't have it myself but know someone who's got it and I had a little play with it. Decent phone but I'm very much an Apple guy so wasn't a huge fan of it really. It looks really nice though and couldn't find any faults with it other than it being Android :)

Well...

He has the Plus version which was huge so not really sure what the 'standard' version is like but it's got to be relatively large for you to write with the pen I imagine?

Galaxy is the worst Android experience. The only true Android experience is a Google Pixel.

Apple makes the phone refined for their operating system.

Google makes the phone refined for their operating system.

Samsung makes the phone and bloats someone else's operating system.

My Google Pixel is beginning to run slow even if I clear some of the stuff on it to give it more storage room. Started shutting down when it gets to 10-15% so reduced a lot of the pictures/videos and downloaded music that I had on there. Removed a few apps but it's still struggling along.

Think the warning signs are there and even more so that the last update actually said it would be the 'final software update' indicating to me I should probably update/upgrade it.

Definitely want to stay with Google and the Pixel range though. Just need to find a good deal!

The Pixel 3a was £320 a few weeks ago. I got one for my girlfriend and there's very little difference between it and my Pixel 3.

Go with what @Rab suggested. I use a 3a which I upgraded to from my 2XL and you're really missing nothing by going with the 3a. Or, if the provider is giving you a good deal try the 4 and dont go with the reviews online its actually not a bad phone at all.

Yeah I would prefer to stay with EE as I've had good service with them for several years.

The only downside is I'm on a really good SIM only deal and probably can't afford to dispense with that money right now. So just hoping my phone holds out for a while longer!

To be honest, they are good phones in general mate. But a lot of stuff has stopped working on mine, specifically internet banking and it's a ballache as I can only use internet banking now on a PC or Laptop and not on a phone app anymore. It all worked perfectly fine until about 3 months ago.

I'm due a new upgrade either way, I just haven't had time to go to the shop yet.

A few days using Redmi 8 and I turned into a massive Xiaomi fan already. 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage, dual back camera (12MP) with the same Sony sensor (IMX363) that Pixel uses too plus a huge battery (5000 mAh) meaning it lasts me at least two days without a single charge, 18W fast charging support. Performance is smooth and the design is slick and beautiful. All that for about 150€.

How long had you had the phone before things went tits up with it mate??

I'll start to have a look in the new year. Due an upgrade in April and while I do like my P20 Pro, I'll either go back to Samsung or possibly consider the Pixel (it was one of the choices last time before I went with Huawei).

So my phone has got worse and got a crack on the phone (doesn't affect performance but irritating knowing it's there).

Still very slow and can only see it getting worse so have bought another phone - Huawei P30 Pro. Much better spec than Google Pixel especially in terms of camera and battery life which are quite imporant for me.

Only £50 upfront and only slightly more in terms of contract cost and time but much better phone in comparison to any new Google and also the current one I have.

Never had Huawei before so will hopefulyl be a good choice!

The wife loves her Nokia phone and still has an 8-year-old one, on the left of the photo and won't use any of the latest touch screen phones for texting and has to have the keyboard on the front of the phone, even me and our son & daughter have tried showing her our up to date mobiles but she will not budge and all the lettering on the keys are faded and I won't touch it as it takes me fucking ages working out where the letters of the alphabet are but Liz can find them easy.

The Nokia phone on the right of the photo I got her that in 2003 and it sits in her bedroom drawer and it still works but it's one which won't take photos or videos, it's funny when we look back to when mobiles first came out and it was like the second coming of Jesus lol.

Some of the bloody letters of the alphabet are faded and that's why I will never use it if my one is charging, trying to work out where the A to the Z is a bloody nightmare but Liz can type away and know where they are.
