  1. To be fair, this rumours came mostly from outsiders, who had no idea of the rivalry between FCS, where most Saarish footballers played, and Lautern, the team that many DFB players played for. Many Saarish had loved their team to defeat Germany, regardless of their self-definition as Germans, only for this fact. The atmosphere at Ludwigspark was very friendly, though. By the way: Mostly identified as Germans is an understatement. Even those, who voted in favour of the autnomy act identified as Germans and Germans only. That talk about a never existing French minority was a French invention to justify their exploitation of Saarish mines and steeling industry.

  6. How was I the last to post in here? I was tossing it off money grabbing when I posted this sat on my arse you talented bunch must have had some interesting career changes since then. I consciously decided I wasn’t happy but wanted to make the most out of my current job in the medical industry, I updated my CV and started practicing. Got a call from a good friend about a position of shift manager at a pharmaceutical company. I had a phone call interview, smashed it, MS teams interview… smashed it. Then a tour and interview with the board and smashed that. Left the final interview skeptical and was told within 2 days you will hear from us. Within 10 minutes of leaving got a call offering me the job, had to pull over in the car I was that ecstatic. Basically it’s an extra 10k a year than I’m on now, much more senior role at a vetinary pharmaceutical company. The team are lacking morale it seems and I know I can change that. Very excited to get started on Jan 4th. Sometimes you look back on small decisions even if they aren’t the reason for success and pat yourself on the back. I don’t think that putting my phone away and staying off the internet was my key to success, but it was the start of something and part of a bigger picture. Last 2 days at my current place before a nice Christmas break and a fresh challenge in the new year. It hit me how much impact I’ve had with my current team when I announced to my shift of 25 people that I’m leaving and a few cried. You realise the impact you’ve had. I love changing and improving other people - so so satisfying. @Bluewolf correct me if I’m wrong but you strike me as someone who’s been in similar job roles.

  7. Thanks pal. It's not so bad, I can still taste (so far) - I just had a cough and a sore throat, so did my wife, our friend had some tests so he came around to leave them on our doorstep and we took our covid tests. A bit gutted to have gone this long without infection and to finally get infected.

  8. Been a while since I’ve graced you all with my long headed presence. Merry Christmas cunts. This demon is all I need for Christmas, hope you all have a great one and are surrounded by those you love. Think that’s a bit of my daughters cake in my beard, but the memory of the photo is what counts.

  11. It is odd he didn't get punishment. I agree with what your assistant said this morning though - players make mistakes and get punished, managers make mistakes and get punished. Referees do it and almost escape punishment and are back reffing barely a few days later in some cases. The lack of culpability after a series of errors across the officials is what angers me the most. I can accept that people will make mistakes, but to not learn from them is where the issue lies. And that goes beyond Tierney or any other individual on the pitch - it's a heated environment which requires split-second decisions (VAR should rectify that but misuse of it needs to be worked on). It's the lack of guidance from above them i.e. Mike Riley at PGMOL. He's not fit to lead that team and there needs to be a change in how officiating is done in this league/country. While I agree Tierney made mistakes at the weekend, he's not the only one and there is a bigger picture here. He'll take the flak while his seniors hide away.

  13. Get well soon Stan On topic, I haven't really thought about this but I get from people quite a bit that sometimes I walk like I'm limping. I can't sit crossed legged more than a minute or so and once out of nowhere my knee swelled real bad. I haven't had any serious injury so it can be some underlying issue for long which I have ignored that can worse with age I fear. I'm confused type of doctor to see !

  14. As eluded to I'm pro-vaccine (indeed I haven't come across anyone who is hesitant about it), however the scapegoating of those who haven't got the vaccine is so widespread I'm surprised they haven't been blamed for our poor performances in the Ashes so far. I get that it can reduce transmission but vaccines don't stop people getting it, the idea of the vaccine is if you do get it, it either doesn't affect you or at worst is similar to a bad bout of flu or cold. As a result cases, which is being used as the reason for further restrictions, are always going to be at a reasonably high level even if, hypothetically, the whole population was vaccinated. Trouble is there's no opposition to it. Labour are pro-control of society so are always going to vote for more restrictions at every turn. It's in the media's interest to be pro-lockdown as it means that more people will be at home reading their articles, meaning they can earn more money from advertisers. I imagine this is why the only questioning of lockdown during this whole process has been along the lines of 'why didn't we lock down harder' or 'why didn't we lock down sooner'. That's why SAGE can go on TV and say unsubstantiated guff like 'if we'd locked down a week earlier we would've saved 20,000 lives' or similar and no interviewer will dare challenge them.

  15. That's gotta be humiliating for Butler. @Spike Don't know how much cricket you watch but "Gazza" is the most mediocre legend in history. Poor away from home on wickets that don't bounce like trampolines, gets worse as the pitch and ball get softer unlike every other spinner on the planet, and routinely struggles to bowl teams out on day 5 pitches. It's basically like having a 5th seamer. England always seem to make him look like he's a god tho. He's the Brad Haddin of spinners. However, Butler, Pope, and both openers need dropping, and England just don't have the troops to replace them. Easy 5-0

  17. I have zero belief in the political system in the United Kingdom. All COVID has amplified is the power of party backers/donors to make money from government at the expense of the taxpayer.

  20. Don't mean to sound too much of a cynic but some are going to wonder what the point was in getting the vaccine if more restrictions come in. It was promised it was the path to freedom, but suggestions of further restrictions show this isn't the case. Not going full Le Tiss here, I've had my first two and have booked in my third after Christmas, but if I'm going to get my third with restrictions either in or incoming, it will be the equivalent of me attending an interview to become Duncan Goodhew's barber.

  21. Schools are closing down, the plans are in place. Kids having to isolate because of a runny nose, educations ruined. It’s every adult’s responsibility to ensure that children get the best of the world. We’re showing an absolute disregard for them and have right from the outset. There has never been anything like it in history where the youngest sacrifice their futures (and please be realistic on this, the outcome of this is not yet known but it’s going to lead to all sorts of negative effects) for the old. All proportion has been lost, the media are gripped by this vicarious thrill seeking. It’s a result of the West’s inability to accept that we are ultimately at nature’s pleasure on this planet and we cannot control everything. The idea we can manipulate human behaviour to outwit a virus is the height of human hubris.

  23. In the 80s as a teen on holiday we found by chance our uncle and aunt were staying in a neighbouring town and so they joined us for a few days. My uncle was a salesman and a funny guy though he had quite a large abdomen and decides to join us in the pool, calling out 'look at me us boys' as he decides to dive into the pool with what looks like a duck dive. We watched as hit the water and then his legs stopped, he had dived in the shallow end. When he surfaces he has blood on his head. As a result of this he sees the camp doctor who tells him you have really high blood pressure and so you can only do one of alcohol, sunbathing or swimming in a day. He later got meds though not sure if it worked.
