Some of the sanctions are going too far as western based companies are jumping on canceling Russia like they would jump on any other lowest common denominator cause. The sanctions at some point might end up being unfavorable to the initial purpose of hurting Putin and people close to him as they could make the regular Russian angrier at the "west" than Putin himself. The state propaganda machine will make sure to spread how that is the general position.3 points

This is why I'm not in favour of going after any innocent Russians. It isn't right in my opinion but everyone has to make it look like they're joining in somehow. EA removed Russia and Russian teams from FIFA 22. This is going from being anti-war and anti-Putin to just being anti-Russia in whatever form Russia comes in.3 points

I'm sad I slept through the Shut up party. "Man up and do the time instead of going to war" Yeah, you know all about the hard choices the Russian people have to make from your couch deciding if you're gonna go to work today or sit at home, play COD and jerk off don't you? What a weapon. And of course a Lithuanian is going to have some fucking issues with the soviets. Again, an oppression he knows nothing about. At least the Nazis might have fucking fed eastern Europe had they gained control for 50 years.2 points

I don't think the sanctions will cause that. Rather it's the climate of identity politics and culture wars that will drive that (and are already driving that in some places tbh). I think it's a bit weird that we can separate people in the West from the actions of their governments - even if they're democracies. We don't assume everyone from the UK believes every word Johnson tells us, we don't assume that everyone who voted for Bush or Blair thinks illegal wars are justifiable even. I think it's strange that so many people are quick to paint all Russians with the same brush that Putin and the kleptocrat oligarchs are painted with and make these big generalisations about a massive nation full of millions of individual people. And unlike us, these people have barely any say in who's in their government and how it behaves...2 points

2nd greatest ever spinner, greatest ever leggie, turned from a chubby aussie battler into a plastic ken doll with all the surgery and hair treatment, and never gave up the 28 year old male life, dying in a thai resort. A legend.1 point

He was a drunk, a sleaze, a womaniser, lazy, arrogant, and a really shit commentator, but he was our wanker and the only guy in cricket that I loved to love and loved to hate at the same time. I enjoyed getting angry at his nonsensical commentary because he was such a glorious cunt.1 point

Boehly-Wyss consortium still in talks with Abramovich, while other parties rule themselves out one-by-one. Chelsea operating on a 'business as usual' basis with Marina Granovskaia still in charge and staff emails being sent out to carry on: https://t.co/ylnZ0sTalM #CFC — Nizaar Kinsella (@NizaarKinsella) March 4, 20221 point

I used to like putting the TV on and letting the news run. I just read it now. That clip isn't even the "best" of it all.1 point

Every clip I've ever seen of Indian news makes it look completely unwatchable. There are always at least 3 heads on the screen at any given time... sometimes way more. And the shouting and arguing is absolutely mental.1 point

This paralympics decision to not allow Russian athletes to compete because "athletes from other countries could refuse to compete against Russians" seems wrong to me. I understand kicking Russia's clubs and national teams out of international competitions because it's going to bring money to Russia, but these athletes, who were going to compete as neutrals, not having the Russian flag or colours, not bringing any money to Russia, aren't the ones attacking Ukraine right now. Should we be on the side of people who judge athletes for the actions of a dictator?1 point

Disagreeing with the statement that the Red Army was "a force of good" is just a tiiiiiiny bit different than questioning "if the Nazis being defeated by the Soviets was a good thing". But whatever helps you sleep better at night1 point

Where was that moral fibre in the UK when we invaded Iraq on false pretenses? We had anti war protests, but did we have soldiers refuse to follow orders en masse?1 point
-
Okay but like @RondónEFC says…. these are kids who are being lied too. It is the career military men, the high up officers, that I think deserve the condemnation. Not kids being sent to die for a dictator. This isn’t like the US or UK we’re talking about where people sign up to go kill people in far off lands we’ve invaded for the sake of economic imperialism. Most of these troops are conscripts that are lied to about the reason they went there.1 point

The calls for any NATO country to enforce a no-fly zone are insane. The implication of taking on Russian aircraft and AA in the area to establish a no-fly zone means another world war, there's no way of avoiding that. And in 2022 that likely means nuclear weapons flying all around the world. I feel for this woman and every Ukrainian that's impacted by this war (so likely, every Ukrainian), but we don't need to test out the theory of mutually assured destruction at any point in our history. Although a part of me finds it amusing that the US and UK were very quick to invade Iraq on the pretext that Iraq had WMDs... but they absolutely won't risk openly getting into conflict with Russia because we all know Russia has WMDs.1 point

No, I only live in the USA, I am not American. I wasn’t trying to be a smartarse I just wanted more specific questions so I could answer, otherwise it would have been a pretty boring and straightforward answer that you probably already knew it the answer. I was expecting more along the lines of, my podcasts say ‘XY has happened in the USA’ or this particular policy has failed. It’s fine, I guess? He inherited the pandemic and he isn’t as confrontational as Trump so it is nice to not hear about him every single day. People are mad a few promises haven’t been fulfilled but ultimately I witness a lot less bellyaching and divisiveness. I feel like people don’t have to double down and cope with the idea that the guy they voted for, Trump is a moron, so people are less up his Biden’s arse trying to justify everything. I think most people don’t like him because he is 240 years old and a career politician that has held a variety of views in the past that don’t work modernly.1 point

Louis Hofmann who played Jonas in Dark has been cast for a Netflix limited series based on Anthony Doerr's novel "All the light we cannot see", alongside Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. That's big. Really happy for him. He was great in Dark.1 point
