David Valencia Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Over the last 10 years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have set standards as to how football greatness is measured. Both superstars have amassed legions of fans between the most arguing who among the two is better. But what do you might happen if both of them will retire in Football?
Administrator Stan Posted April 28, 2020 Administrator Posted April 28, 2020 Great topic David. Took out the links though

Rucksackfranzose Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 What might happen to football, when both retire? Nothing. Football was alive and kicking before both of them were even born and it probably will still be , when those two players have retired, if not this will have other reasons than their retirement. The only change I can see, some people (especially in Asia) might actually recognize football is a team sport.

Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted April 28, 2020 Subscriber Posted April 28, 2020 Nothing will happen to football at all. There will be new 'greats' emerge. Just like when players have retired in the past, new ones are idolised by the media
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted April 28, 2020 Subscriber Posted April 28, 2020 Nothing really, Pelé, Eusébio, Best and other greats in their time were replaced by others the same as Messi & Ronaldo will be, as 'Life goes On' so does footballers and other great athletes past & present.

The closest player right now imo that comes close to them in terms of ability is Bernardo Silva, yet his output isn’t anywhere near them.
Smiley Culture Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 It’ll be like now, where morons argue who is the better of the two but instead of them playing, they’ll be retired.
Michael Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 For genuine football fans, it might be sad to see them hang up their boots, but football will still go on. They won't be the first great footballers to have retired and even after they retire, football will still be as popular as ever.
Harry Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 I think the Messi Ronaldo retirement pre Qatar wc will be remembered as the end of a golden era of football stemming back to 1998, but not just because of those two. Rather it's been the era of football going global in the way basketball did in the 80s and 90s. There will be a hangover, like the NBA post Jordan.
Dr. Gonzo Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 I'm not sure I understand the question. It's not like football stopped when Maradona stopped playing. Football will keep going, regardless of whoever retires.

Danny Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 There just isn’t a player like either of them and won’t be for a while, Ronaldo is a freakishly good goal scorer and Messi is just freakishly good at everything in an attacking sense...you’re more likely to see a player replicate what Ronaldo has done than Messi simply because Messi doesn’t just score goals at an unprecedented level, his passing, crossing, dribbling...as long as his body/drive lasts he could easily play as a centre mid well into his 40s imo

Closest player to Messi is perhaps B.Silva, and his output is maybe10% of Messi’s. Bernardo Silva is also imo Portugal’s most influential player, so you can see the standard that’s been set by Messi.
Bluewolf Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Life will go on, they are decent footballers not gods or meteors... I can't see them having to retire as having any negative impact on football or indeed my life...
Lucas Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Jesus, how dramatic. Life goes on. They will go down as legends like all their predecessors from past decades and new 'heroes' will be born in the game. Above all else, it'll be nice to see Jesse Lingard finally recognised for his skills.

What skills? that guy is more interested in selfies with his mobile, dancing around like a fucking idiot with Pogba on and off the pitch. PS. I can't stand the little prick and the sooner he is gone from United the better.
