Devil
Training day. American gangster I haven't seen Man on fire, will have to give that a watch when I'm back from Eygpt.
Moderator Tommy Posted October 18, 2021 Moderator Share Posted October 18, 2021 Training Day stands out for me, because just like Tom Cruise in Collateral, it's an unusual role for him and he nails it. Also, Fences. Even though Viola Davis really outshines everyone in that movie, but Denzel was still great.

Spike
I like Training Day but the more I think about the premise the less I like it. Mainly the coincidence of Ethan Hawks saving the gangster's neicefrom rape saves his life, I get the whole point about it being 'no good deed goes unrewarded' and it's meant to juxtapose his good cop vs. the corrupt cops but it comes off very schlockey. Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted October 19, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted October 19, 2021 I'd say Training day edges it for me. When you see his character evolve from being almost bullet proof to being scared to going back to trying to assert his authority its really a great piece of acting after everything the movie sets up.
