Doesn't smell like ISIS to me but no idea beyond a gut feeling.

What a horrible coward though, this has been a long time in the planning clearly and he ends up popping himself before he faces justice.

The premeditated nature to inflict maximum damage rather than making a clear public statement is a new level of disgusting compared to previous attacks. Really shocking.

I've been hearing more about this story then most of these that happen in the States probably because this is fairly close to home. One of the victims was from the suburb i live in and an apprentice in my trade oddly enough. There have been some stories of the heroism to come out and thats what i prefer to take out this more then anything. RIP to the victims.

There’s always a motive, it’s just whether we can interpret what it is. I don’t buy ISIS, it could possibly be gambling it could just be a hatred of country music, but there’s always a motive.

Edit: IS have doubled down on claiming it’s him and released some sort of communication with him. Tbh I’m still very skeptic

He has links to the Philippines with this woman,  In the Philippines there is a war going on with ISIS, so there is a small chance he could have something to do with it but there just is something not right about this.   The motive and also the background of the person from what we know from the press about his life, is not really stacking up to the kind of knowledge and experience you must have to use these kind of weapons.    Anyone can buy a gun but to go to this extent and planning seems to be more of a military mission then some mad man with a gun.

It seems that there had to be someone there with him who had the knowledge of all the guns, weapons, also setting up cameras, its like someone was watching out so they could escape and leave this guys dead body in the room, but who knows.

Call me a conspiracy theorist... but it's now reported that his girlfriend was sent to the Philippines on an unexpected trip before he booked the room. Then he wired money to her, stating it was for her and her family. Seems plausible that considering that nobody seems to be able to pin a motive down... perhaps his motive was he was paid to do something terrible, by specific people who did have a motive - and maybe had the ability to blackmail him, so while he might die, he can pass on a shitload of money to the woman he loved.

But at the same time, it's hard to take her at face value that she didn't suspect anything was up with this guy. He had a giant arsenal of weapons - which, I feel like to most people, would be a warning flag that perhaps this person might have the intention of using their massive arsenal of weapons.

Not a whole lot about this makes any sense right now though and it's probably not very helpful to speculate... but it does make you wonder.

Unlikely as the woman is actually Australian with Pinoy ancestry. Her name 'Marilou Danley' gives no suggestion she is from Muslim Mindanao, and if she were, her name would be closer to Maylasian than Pinoy.

I'm sure our resident Pinoy @bozziovai can back me up.

i'm gonna be that guy and moan about the fact the mainstream media is calling this guy a 'lone gunman' as opposed to a 'lone terrorist'.

Yes he was a terrorist,  Isil have claimed responsibility, he was a recent convert to Islam and spent time training oversea's,

hours later, Isil referred to Paddock by the nom de guerre Abu Abd al-Barr al-Amriki and said he had answered a call to arms by its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi"

Correct, he was a recent convert to Islam and Isil have confirmed that and claimed responsibility

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a shooting that left at least 50 people dead and more than 400 others injured at a packed music festival in Las Vegas.

In a statement via its Amaq news agency, the terror group said the gunman, identified by police as Stephen Paddock, was a "soldier of the Islamic State".

It also claimed he had converted to Islam a few months ago - and had carried out the deadly attack "in response to calls to target states of the coalition".

It’s very much up in the air, there’s all sorts of theories going on like talk of a second shooter. Without motive though it’s impossible to figure it all out, he could be IS he could be Antifa you don’t know, there’s a picture going round of him supposedly at a anti populist rally and apparently he’s a registered democrat. That does fit in with a stereotypical white republican crowd being targeted but it’s all guessing at this point

Of course ISIS would claim him as one of their own. But that isn’t exactly concrete evidence. The rush to need to categorize this to the villain of the moment is so typically human. I’d rather wait and see the evidence than listen to agendas at play subverting the truth.

I'm not surprised that IS have "claimed" this as their own. It's a good job in their eyes and could be interpreted as an inspiration or used as a blueprint, if you like, for future attacks on the Western World.

I think it was actually Country and Western.

Surely most likely is just some kind of sick fantasy? He was clearly obsessed with guns, I'm sure half the thrill of having those guns is imagining the carnage they can bring, the ultimate free for all of death and destruction. To someone with potential problems, I can see how that could easily result in enacting it, only this one seems to have been spectacularly successful.

they're just fueling this claim of isis and we all know that mindanao is at war with those maute group being related to isis.    so now, they're trying to connect this Marilou to those extremists group.         It's common for us pinoys to immigrate, my bestfriend's family has immigrated to australia.     And this Marilou has been an australian citizen for decades.

look, why can't the americans just admit that it's their Law that contributed to the situation of Paddock.   As far as i know, Las Vegas allows anyone to bring their firearms as long as it's registered.

Nevada law allows a person to carry a concealed weapon with a permit; it does not restrict the number of weapons a person may own. Semi-automatic weapons are also not prohibited in the state as long as they are registered and are possessed in adherence to federal law, and neither are machine guns,*according to the National Rifle Association..

Paddock is a gambler.   the odds of him losing a lot of money and going crazy is very very high.

It was obviously a coordinated attack, taking some time to prepare. That doesn't really indicate an off the cuff reaction to losing money, if he'd gone into a casino and blown people to bits then maybe. I think it's just a psychopath's evil fantasy, obsessed with guns, loves hunting...people like that obviously vicariously wish to kill but most, thankfully, have the humanity not to follow it through. I'm guessing this fella was probably mentally ill and then thought, that's how I'd like to go out.

Crazy that some people are giving this lad shit saying that if he had a gun to defend himself wouldn't need to hide. How can people be this backward thinking in 2018? Absolutely mind boggling.

He’d still need cover and you can’t berate someone to act, but it has happened where private gun holders have took out active shooters and saved lives
