Italy lacking a creative presence in the middle of the park. Got to believe at some point they could take off one of Jorginho or Locatelli and get someone on further forward.

Turkey's midfield has hardly touched the ball, don't quite need the amount of sitting midfielders.

Read something a while back where someone basically said having a solid defensive structure is much more valuable at a tournament because it’s easier to play that way than to build up a consistent attack within a short period.

So far seeing that unfold tonight

Turkey has no game plan

They do, it’s to be deep and compact and try to frustrate Italy and hit them on the counter.

I’m not sure how effective it’ll be in the long run… but it’s working so far… minus not having a goal

Their counters have been shit and already mentioned their midfield is invisible. Definitely not effective for longer.

Italy dominating, Turkey have been poor. That Spinazzola is class, been causing Turkey loads of problems. I think Chiesa needs to come on. Any reason why he didn't start? I put him in my fantasy team thinking a dead cert to start

Berardi has been in form recently.

Chiesa is probably more likely to be used in games against better opponents or where the game is a bit more stretched. He very quick and a great runner with the ball.

But for playing basically a half pitch game, Berardi is the better option for tighter areas.

Italy just seem to be reluctant to play any sort of killer ball. Get the ball wide faster and cross in behind the defenders or get to the byline and pull it back. Turkey next to no ambition and ten men behind the ball, sometimes in their own box, which is why Italy look toothless. This is the reality of tournament football. Weaker side defend almost exclusively and try to dive for a penalty on the break. Stronger side know that 1-0 is enough so willing to be patient rather than over committing to break the deadlock early and risking a counter attack.

Can barely string two passes together but they did this against France twice in the qualifiers, with good results (1 win and 1 draw). It probably only works because they have one of the best center back pairings in Europe. I wouldn't rule Turkey out just yet.
