ASF Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 The nominees came out last Tuesday. https://oscar.go.com/nominees. Thoughts? Black Panther nominated for Best Picture is a piss-take.
nudge Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I've seen two and a half movies from the whole nominee list

BlackKklansman looks interesting and Vice should be decent as well, but the rest of the best pics noms look dull. Just another 'meh' year.
Cicero Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 An actual Marvel movie is nominated for an Academy Award for best picture? What the fuck?

Moderator Tommy Posted January 24, 2019 Moderator Posted January 24, 2019 Some of the weakest nominations I've seen in a while. Generally it just doesn't look very exciting. Ethan Hawke for his performance in First Reformed was definitely snubbed.

On another note I would say best visual effects has to be down to 'Avengers Infinity War' or 'Ready Player One'

6666 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Black Panther wasn't even the best superhero movie of 2018. Wasn't even as good as Antman & The Wasp let alone Infinity War. I guess they have to because... you know... placation.
IgnisExcubitor Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Globes was terribly boring. In fact the opening monologue was the worst ever I have seen in an awards functions. I can see it being topped at Oscars.
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted January 29, 2019 Subscriber Posted January 29, 2019 I've seen three of the nominees. Incredibles 2 FTW!
ASF Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 It's tonight, for anyone that is interested. Will watch it tomorrow, when I get back home from work, but I don't have high hopes for this.
Eco Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Thanks for the reminder - I don't really like it, but my wife loves it and had forgotten about it so now I'm a 'hero'.
IgnisExcubitor Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 The only good thing about it was Olivia Colman's lovely speech. It was genuine and adorable unlike the fake, OTT surprise some show after winning. Also, happy with Spiderman - Into the Spiderverse getting the Oscar. Going to repeat what I said in the other thread, it's the best Spiderman movie. Lastly, thought Spike Lee behaved like a spoilt child. Apparently threw a fit when Green Book won the best film award (tweeted by reporters present there) and during his back stage interview. I haven't watched the Green Book, and it could be awful and I am aware of Peter Farrelly's past but dude, enjoy your night instead of making snide remarks about others. I remember Lee having problems with Django Unchained, as well. Came across as a muppet.

Never watched the Oscars as it is getting boring nowadays but saw that bit above on the news, especially when she blew a raspberry when she was told to hurry up, me and the wife laughed our socks off

Here's the whole speech. And my mistake. It's Colman not Coleman.
Cicero Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Reckon Mahershala Ali will also win an Emmy next year for True Detective. Very good performance from him
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted February 25, 2019 Subscriber Posted February 25, 2019 Loved Olivia's speech and her reaction was just so genuine. And she got a kiss from Emma Stone - goals.
Guest Cannabis Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Mad how Olivia Coleman, a woman I watched in school playing Sophie from Peep Show has an Oscar. Amazing
ASF Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 I thought the ceremony didn't feel like a proper Oscar evening. The awards were rushed, the performances felt flat. Worst Oscar ceremony I've seen.
Administrator Stan Posted January 7, 2020 Administrator Posted January 7, 2020 Gervais was superb. Loved every minute of that intro. The Judi Dench bit had me in stitches.
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted January 7, 2020 Subscriber Posted January 7, 2020 Loved that intro. Some of the reactions were a picture!
