Only saw Black Panther from the Best Picture nominees.

BlackKklansman looks interesting and Vice should be decent as well, but the rest of the best pics noms look dull.

Just another 'meh' year.

An actual Marvel movie is nominated for an Academy Award for best picture?

What the fuck?

Not even one of the better ones IMO. Not trying to be anti PC but come on.

One of the worst Marvel movies.

If you wanted to nominate a popular, but good movie, then Infinity War was your movie.

Some of the weakest nominations I've seen in a while. Generally it just doesn't look very exciting.

Ethan Hawke for his performance in First Reformed was definitely snubbed.

I have only seen one of them BlackKlansman but feel that is at least worthy of being on that list...

On another note I would say best visual effects has to be down to 'Avengers Infinity War' or 'Ready Player One'

I've seen Solo: The Star Wars Story and First Man in full, and parts of Black Panther...

Black Panther wasn't even the best superhero movie of 2018. Wasn't even as good as Antman & The Wasp let alone Infinity War. I guess they have to because... you know... placation.

Globes was terribly boring. In fact the opening monologue was the worst ever I have seen in an awards functions. I can see it being topped at Oscars.

It's tonight, for anyone that is interested.

Will watch it tomorrow, when I get back home from work, but I don't have high hopes for this.

Thanks for the reminder - I don't really like it, but my wife loves it and had forgotten about it so now I'm a 'hero'.

The only good thing about it was Olivia Colman's lovely speech. It was genuine and adorable unlike the fake, OTT surprise some show after winning.

Also, happy with Spiderman - Into the Spiderverse getting the Oscar. Going to repeat what I said in the other thread, it's the best Spiderman movie.

Lastly, thought Spike Lee behaved like a spoilt child. Apparently threw a fit when Green Book won the best film award (tweeted by reporters present there) and during his back stage interview. I haven't watched the Green Book, and it could be awful and I am aware of Peter Farrelly's past but dude, enjoy your night instead of making snide remarks about others. I remember Lee having problems with Django Unchained, as well. Came across as a muppet.

Never watched the Oscars as it is getting boring nowadays but saw that bit above on the news, especially when she blew a raspberry when she was told to hurry up, me and the wife laughed our socks off  xD

Yep, it was brilliant.

Here's the whole speech.

And my mistake. It's Colman not Coleman.

Reckon Mahershala Ali will also win an Emmy next year for True Detective. Very good performance from him

Loved Olivia's speech and her reaction was just so genuine. And she got a kiss from Emma Stone - goals.

Mad how Olivia Coleman, a woman I watched in school playing Sophie from Peep Show has an Oscar. Amazing :ay:

I thought the ceremony didn't feel like a proper Oscar evening.

The awards were rushed, the performances felt flat. Worst Oscar ceremony I've seen.

Brutal monologue from Ricky Gervais.

Gervais was superb. Loved every minute of that intro.

The Judi Dench bit had me in stitches.

Joaquin Phoenix was great in Joker, but it’s sad that Adam Driver (who was incredible in Marriage Story) will probably lose out on the best actor Oscar to the pressure of giving Phoenix the award.

Joker will be nominated for best picture, which is does not deserve.

Not having that mate.

Phoenix will win because of his performance. Won’t have anything to do with pressure. His performance was as good as anything DeNiro or Lewis dished out.

Never been the biggest fan of Gervais as a comedian but you can't fault his balls for coming out and saying all of that, as well as his history of work with animals.

I need to see that Korean film, looks immense. I’m just trying to think back over the films I’ve seen this year but having a mindblank, would defo have Joker over Once Upon A Time In Hollywood easy

Don’t agree. His performance was excellent but definitely not one of the best of all time. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a worthy winner, but not at the expense of Driver. It’s a shame both are up for the award this year.
