  1. "Quit treating the elderly" is misleading but in general there's triaging and rationing care (happens in wars all the time too) and there have been quite a few similar reports coming from Italian doctors/nurses/politicians in the media; Italian authorities also published guidelines for the criteria that doctors and nurses should follow if the circumstances worsen suggesting that older patients would not be considered for intubation and ventilation in order to allow capacity to treat younger patients. It also isn't surprising - what are you supposed to do if you simply don't have beds in ICU and the medical equipment anymore? It's happening in hospitals that are affected the most. Plenty of reports online... https://www.businessinsider.de/international/italys-doctors-are-forced-to-prioritize-saving-the-young-2020-3/?r=US&IR=T https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/who-gets-hospital-bed/607807/ https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-italy-hospitals-doctor-lockdown-quarantine-intensive-care-a9401186.html https://www.ft.com/content/34f25036-62f4-11ea-a6cd-df28cc3c6a68 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/12/world/europe/12italy-coronavirus-health-care.html Some numbers and data: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2763188 Also read this twitter thread: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1237142891077697538.html A while ago I posted a harrowing testimony of an Italian doctor posted on his social media account which was then printed by numerous newspapers; a long and hard read. It's scary as people are dying preventable deaths because the health care system is overwhelmed.

  2. Can't be @Mel81x. There's more chance of you and me doing it, maybe @Asura . Those are the only Hindus here. But on a serious note, those idiots are known idiots who often do these shitty stunts after calling the media to cover them to get their 15 mins of fame. And the media obliges. Most people don't drink it. Only few idiots like him do. And cow dung is used as fuel in methane gases in villages, which are also on the decrease now with more and more LPG gas connections. @Harvsky Yeah, read that about inflammatories. I don't think @nudge and I were speaking on Turmeric for Corona. But normal colds and sore throats. Though turmeric might help make your immune system stronger. Also, garlic.

  4. Not sure that's the reason... This I would probably agree with... When you think of how a normal Saturday might go with Football for example you are normally on packed trains or coaches going to and from games, then in the stadium itself surrounded by large crowds then most normal people might enjoy a night out clubbing or drinking in a busy club or pub until late and the older generation don't normally partake in such things but the younger ones all the way up till your in your 50's + is normal and that's not also considering busy shopping centres, work and concerts etc.. The older generation may also find themselves more isolated in general with the odd visit from the family or the odd trip down the shops etc..

  5. I think it could be related to those oldest ones not being a part of the workforce, having less social contacts and being the least likely to actively participate in social life and activities. Less exposure = less chance to get infected.

  6. In China, the majority was between 30 and 69 years old (almost 78% of all confirmed cases). Here's the more detailed distribution: In South Korea, it is mostly people in their 20s, 50s and 40s. In Italy it's mostly people over 50, although there's a significant percentage of younger ones too. I think the takeaway here is that pretty much all age groups are affected except children who doesn't seem to be very susceptible to it and are often asymptomatic. The differences between countries are probably the result of under which conditions the local outbreak originated. E.g. in South Korea the main cluster was that crazy religious cult; I think that's why they seem to have more younger people affected than the elderly.

  7. Still boggles my mind that the younger generation of F1 drivers casually plays racing sims online. I saw a screenshot of Max pm'ing some guy, complementing him on his car set-up and asking if he would share it with him. Imagine that. Or as I said before, imagine you're pretty decent at this game, and think you will easily win the race and then you see "Max Verstappen has joined the game".

  8. I was thinking about putting this in the 'Today I Had To Laugh At' thread. Just come back from Tesco's, some guy with a trolley with 6 Jumbo packs (x9) of Andrex toilet rolls in a trolley, started to unload it on the belt and the till operator told him "Sorry sir, you can only buy one pack of 9 at a time please" the look on his face was like he had been hit by a train, he didn't argue as there was a 6-foot odd's security guard standing there watching him, shaking his head with an evil grin on his face, fucking priceless watching him load 5 Jumbo packs back into the trolley and just pay for one.

  10. I was out doing a bit of shopping this morning and people are just being silly.... Someone only needs to post something like "Turmeric helps keep you virus free" on twitter and that will be out of stock within half a day... people will believe anything.. I was reading a story the other day where some bloke in America went out and purchased 17,000 bottles of hand sanitizer which he was hoping to cash in on by selling them for $8 a bottle on Amazon once this all kicked off and within a week Amazon froze his account for inflating his prices and now he is stuck with them... Part of me wanted to praise him for trying to cash in and the other half of me was laughing because that will teach him a lesson for being greedy and trying to cash in on peoples fears..

  11. Quite an emotional moment here right now in Spain. Everyone just came to their balconies at 10pm with a minute of clapping to pay tribute to the health system and all the people working to help fight this disease. Quite a striking moment.

  16. Hi guys. Apologies for the Mafia War exit. Sadly, my mum passed away about an hour ago after a long fight with cancer. Might seem mad that someone would be on a forum just an hour later, but a lot of you are like a second family after 13 years. I’ll survive and I’ll be back sooner than you think. Take care X

  17. Vizcarra will deliver a message to the country today. Rumour is the whole country will be on lock down. The good is that this was much needed. Many people still going out. The bad is that I'm gonna be stuck here. Thankfully I'm in the country of my birth, but it's still gonna be annoying.

  26. Regarding turmeric. Add a spoonful of it in warm milk, along with sugar. Have it before bedtime. It will rid you of sore throat, cough and even cold. Will also reduce your body's heat issues ( non flu heat), if you have any. Will improve your immune system as well.

  27. Yep, turmeric has proven health benefits especially in reducing inflammation. The issue is its poor bioavailability but it can be improved by enhancing agents (black pepper is one of those). Won't help with the virus though haha.

  33. Can understand not going on lock down not so as not to put pressure on the NHS further down the line but don't think they've been very clear about things so far. For example the health secretary Matt Hancock gave his thoughts and ideas about the outbreak and managing it, but put it behind a pay wall on the Telegraph And another example being what their plans are for the elderly were due to be announced on Thursday but its been leaked to journalists now to announce in a bit part way.

  35. As of midnight tonight we have followed our glorious neighbours (NZ) in implementing mandatory self isolation of 14 days for ANYONE who comes into Australia. How to police this though? A lady in Perth got tested and while waiting for results went to the theatre so... it may help but can you expect any tourists or any Aussie (we are generally a “she will be alright/dumb” people) to self quarantine? I don’t. Schools still open after our PM takes advice from Britain allegedly. Our cases will grow crazily. We are not even in flu season and we are at 256 cases so far. I read a list of 9-10 flights that have come into Perth with a passenger who has coronavirus and messages to get checked if you were in certain aisles. My dumb ass state have been letting in cruise ships still. 3000 passengers from around the world just got into port the other day. But the federal government have now banned cruise ships docking for 30 days I believe. It’s a start but hmmm

  41. I've honestly never felt so welcomed by people before. In the hotel, in the cannabis social club, at Camp Nou, on the streets, I was treat like I was a king or something at times. It's probably with being an Englishman speaking Spanish and being open and friendly. I should have took @nudge's advice 10 years ago when it comes to going away on your own, you end up seeing everything and it offers very different experiences, as it has done on all 3 of my solo trips now. It was fantastic and I must have done like 50 mile walking overall, literally. It's not even an exaggeration. I walked 17 mile on Friday alone. Then on Sunday I probably did the same amount of miles but to another part of the city. It actually felt like I was there much longer than 4 and 1/2 days due to how much I did and saw and the pure amount of people I met, a high majority being latin-americans and people from the USA.
