Rick Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Well that came out of the blue. I’m very impressed with the moves Villa are making this window.
Devil Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Southampton losing Bertrand and Ings in this window, just checked their squad on Fantasy football, surely in the frame for the drop. Great signing for Villa providing they can keep him fit.
Rick Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Just now, Dr. Gonzo said: Good signing - how much was the fee? Hearing it was £30m
Administrator Stan Posted August 4, 2021 Administrator Posted August 4, 2021 Wow, that's a surprise. Literally no rumours or anything. Villa really splashing the Grealish cash around.

Reluctant Striker Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Not sure who this guy is, but sums up my reaction quite well: Quote
Reluctant Striker Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I imagine it rules out Tammy Abraham returning any time soon. And not too sure what it could imply for fit again Wesley. He certainly seems 3rd choice now he's back & Ings is in.
Administrator Stan Posted August 4, 2021 Administrator Posted August 4, 2021 I think Villa have to be taken seriously to finish top 6/7 after these signings. Yes they lose Grealish but spending in positions they need to improve.

Danny Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Wow, good signing for Villa. Competition for Watkins for the central role but also Watkins can play elsewhere in a front 3
Administrator Batard Posted August 4, 2021 Administrator Posted August 4, 2021 Huge signing, the lad is class. Southampton going down.
Waylander Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Ouch, was hoping Ings might be our panic buy when Haaland and Lukaku fail. Think we might be in trouble now on the striker front unless something very unexpected happens.
Lucas Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 £30m for a 29 year old player in the last year of his contract with a patchy injury record isn't bad business for Saints to be fair.

I know he didn't really cut it at Man Utd... but I think he'll do quite well at Chelsea.
Whiskey Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 The only reason Lukaku was shit at Manchester United is because he was bulked up and totally mismanaged. Would do well if coached correctly.
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted August 4, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 4, 2021 Not a bad signing at all if he stays fit and as others have said, it's an old fashioned way of signing someone too with the fact nobody saw it coming.
Subscriber Dan+ Posted August 5, 2021 Subscriber Posted August 5, 2021 Southampton are going down this year.

It isn't if they stay up - which is a big if at this point now. I think some clubs could take the hit in that instance. I'm not sure Southampton can. They're firmly in the circling the bowl phase and it feels a matter of time until they go, and I think this is probably it. We'll have to see who they bring in but they seem terrible at maintaining a decent squad. They were a fantastic side a few years ago as well. Everything people praise us for.
6666 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 If they bring in a good central defender, it'll be very interesting to see what they do. Maybe not top 4 but I wouldn't rule them out of the Europa League spots.
Honey Honey Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Sometimes a 1 in 3 striker, sometimes a 1 in 2. At that price you'd want 1 in 2. That may well be the difference between being upper and lower mid table now that Grealish isn't there.

That is true though good strikers can be hard to find. I do like the look of Che Adams though looks short of a yard of pace. In their favour the Saints have been good at bringing through unknowns so will be interesting to see how they shape up this season.
