Azeem Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Tea - living in a college campus and visiting home after 2-3 months i drink a lot of tea at least three times a day and its a lot of money if i think about it. Internet/ Calling services - I don't call much but text a lot so i usually do a monthly plan + internet package and have a Wifi dongle so a fare share of budget goes there even though i can use hostel internet but its has so many restrictions Bike/fuel - I don't own a bike but there are many who rent bikes in the campus so i do the rent and fuel myself occasionally i don't like using public transport or apps like Uber
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted April 10, 2019 Subscriber Posted April 10, 2019 It was smoking but that is in the past now, but today? really can't think of anything else nowadays at my age maybe overeating.
...Dan Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I eat and have coffee at cafés at least 3 times a week. I never eat lunch at home.

Administrator Stan Posted April 10, 2019 Administrator Posted April 10, 2019 Betting on football and horses used to be expensive but I've totally stopped now. Feel so much better for it. Eating lunch out and about for work is a bit of a habit for me which I try to cut down every now and then. Don't really have any other expensive habits. Occasionally treat myself with a reasonable expensive clothes-based purchase but even then I feel like I have to justify it and it's under some control as it is. Dont think fuel can be classed as a habit? More of a necessity surely?
Eco Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Hmm... I don't have a ton. I drink ever so rarely now, don't smoke, and I don't eat out all that often. No porn or betting, so I kind of think I'm in the clear...luckily. My wife however is a totally different animal.
nudge Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I'm quite frugal in general. I don't smoke. My rent is cheap. I like good food and I usually eat out (5-6 times a week) but I don't eat much, usually just once a day, and it's not expensive here anyway. I only get new clothes and shoes when I need them. I tend to keep the amount of stuff I own limited due to moving quite often so I buy new things rarely. So technically, I don't really have significantly expensive habits. But this is there whisky & photography come into play. When it comes to whisky, when I was still living in Europe I'd regularly get new bottles for my collection. Here it's a bit different due to various factors (limited availability, storing issues, moving places often etc.) so I keep it limited but I'll still gladly spend 100-200$ for a good bottle of single malt every once in a while. Photography is just a pretty expensive hobby in general and I'm a bit obsessed with it so I still get new gear regularly and it tends to cost quite a bit. But then again, due to being frugal in many other aspects of life it kind of balances out. Books used to eat a lot of my budget too but I replaced them with ebooks (even if I dislike it) while I'm here as I can't just transport hundreds or thousands of books every time I move. I travel much less now than I used to but whenever I do I prefer staying in good hotels these days so it's more expensive as well.

Subscriber Viva la FCB+ Posted April 10, 2019 Subscriber Posted April 10, 2019 I dont know if Hockey qualifies but its expensive as fuck. per team I pay 800-900$ for a season and then summer hockey is usually another 400-500 then theres gear and sticks - sticks I usually break a couple a year and even with a wicked deal there still 120-150$ per stick. The only other thing I really spend alot on is MTG cards, I spend way too much on that shit, infact heroin might be cheaper.

I spend between $20-$50 a month on used books via thriftbooks.com. Absolutely fantastic website for cheap books.
Eco Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 And I have a lot more habits that waste massive amounts of time, rather than massive amounts of money.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted April 10, 2019 Subscriber Posted April 10, 2019 I don't actually have any, besides being lazy enough during the school holidays to buy ready made sandwiches constantly from the shop instead of buying bread, butter and ham to make them myself, that's all I've got.

I used to get mine from https://www.bookdepository.com/; best one for me as they have free worldwide delivery and a huge selection of books... Also great customer service.
Inverted Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Not much really, I don't eat out often, only game I play is FM, I don't often go and spend loads on booze, and I only buy second hand books, or loan them. I like to have coffees when I'm out and about, which is a bit of a waste when I can bring it from home. In a uni week I'd normally buy a few coffees a week which adds up to like £7 a week, or about £30 a month, relatively pointlessly. Even if I'm just out doing stuff on my own I like getting a nice coffee and maybe a pastry and just chilling for a while.

Dr. Gonzo Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Coffee probably, but only because I drink so much of it throughout a day.
Toinho Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 I suppose alcohol. But I drink less than I used to. Nothing else would be a habit really, if you added up my Netflix, Xbox live, internet, phone, and a few other things it probably becomes quite expensive over the course of the year but I can comfortably afford those luxuries.
Harry Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 We go out for a family breakfast every Saturday morning at the same coffee shop. I also buy a coffee there every morning. That would be a $100 a week habit overall but not one I'm willing to part with.
Subscriber JoshBRFC+ Posted April 11, 2019 Subscriber Posted April 11, 2019 Alcohol. Already looking forward to a cold beer tonight at home with no work till Tuesday.
Spike Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Booze - I'm cutting down. Coffee - I don't pay for. Eating out - maybe too often. Video games - only on sale and rarely as well. Netflix/HBO/Cable - - I use someone's account. NHL TV - I use someone's account. Internet - I don't pay for right now. Xbox Live/PSN - I refuse to pay for something that was free for years and for which most games are free to play with online capabilities on PC. Clothes - only when something wears out. Books - I look for free online versions so I don't have any useless paper taking up space. Phone - $150 iPhone SE with $40 p/m prepaid plan, and the Mrs. contract is free right now. Money spend I do not.
