  1. What a fucking read. I’ve said this from the start. If you let a few typed up words get to you, from people who you’ll probably never meet in your life, then you have some shit to figure out.

  3. Just trying to say we have adults acting like school children. Completely relevant when we read DDW’s posts, some of Brian’s. I was actually agreeing with you but thanks for the attack. Miserable lad aren’t ya!

  6. 7 days in a row with 0 cases in Western Australia. We still have a lot of restrictions in place. Let’s hope this trend continues for as long as possible, we know a second wave is probable, but keeping borders shut until other regions/countries have it under control is paramount.

  7. UK hitting the top of the death charts in Europe despite having the most time to prepare, despite having the most insight into what was to come due to being the last country to get hit, and despite being a fucking island and despite having one of the very best health services in the world, is about as predictable as it gets. What's worse is that we're still posting daily death tolls in the 600s - we're far from done. Nobody's allowed to criticise Boris/Brexit/the Tories it seems these days without being a naive left-wing remoaner Corbynite communist Islamophile self-hating Britain-hating muppet who just needs to get over it and whose shrill bleating is the whole reason the Tories won such a large majority at the last election, but I'm going to simply point out that we (well, you guys, I'm lucky enough to live on an island where the locally elected farmers, shopkeepers and electricians took sensible, proactive and well-communicated steps at the right time to keep this thing relatively under control) as a country voted to double down on this group of charlatans and lo and behold, the first serious challenge faced by the country in the aftermath, while unprecedented, has been absolutely bungled. Then there's SAGE, what an absolute shit show. We're just going to ignore what's happened in all the countries in Europe as this virus has steamrolled towards us from across China, think that we know better than all of them and take a completely different route which fails and gets disproven within a week and decimates public trust in the scientists' competence to guide us through this crisis. The foreign coverage of Britain's handling of this crisis is absolutely damning, and this government is lucky they have an ally across the Atlantic whose ongoing demented episode of Black Mirror makes the rest of the world look intelligent by comparison.

  8. I went out here in the south of Spain on Monday without it being to go to the supermarket or pharmacy for the first time in around 50 days. A very liberating experience. The de-escalation period started here last weekend and this week people have been able to go out to do exercise, with every age group given a certain slot in the day in which they can go out. With exercise, you have no limitations with movement, whilst if you're just walking you have to stay 1km from your home. I guess we can only wait for late next week to see the consequences, hopefully, the numbers stay stable or reduce further. One of my students is a doctor and he was saying that potentially there could be a second wave next week which might mean going back to square one. He was saying that as everyone has been locked up for so long, with some of the toughest lockdown restrictions worldwide here, people will start doing more than they should be and this may spread the virus even more with some parts of the country being affected worse than others. I went out for a run by the river tonight and it was very busy, a lot of people doing exercise but also a lot of people who just seemed to be conjugating in groups, not a police officer in sight. The de-escalation process is obviously a key period, I guess we can only wait and see if it turns out alright. Hope everyone's well. Best wishes to everyone.

  9. We'll get a public inquiry but manslaughter charges would be an insane precedent to set. Who would ever become a civil servant if you could easily go to jail for being incompetent. The "government" is not just 26 MP's infested by 3 who were part of Vote Leave. It's hundreds of civil servants and Spads. You can't actually expect 26 people to know everything there is to know.

  11. If your looking for cheap-ish ones I can't recommend Koss Pro4AA highly enough... If you want even cheaper, then Pro3AA Titanium might interest you too. I bought them once accidentally because I needed headphones urgently and the local electronics shop only had that one pair left. The best price - quality ratio I ever witnessed.

  12. Try these. They come with pedigree in their construction and sound quality https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40X-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B00HVLUR54 Think the bass response will be low but I think they generally tend to be good for a lot of general music listening and also great for movies/media consumption and you can get them cheaper outside the Amazon ecosystem I believe.

  13. Rob's work with ST and IG is very different from the kind of stuff you'd expect Metallica to be playing which is why whenever I hear him play I always think he should be doing more, hes actually being stunted with his time at Metallica but as you say why not? Big band, big money, easy fame. When you look at their legacy and what they started with they strayed so far off the path that every time I hear their bass now I think okay you're just playing Hetfield's parts versus pushing them out more and I rate the rhythm work on a lot of Metallica's songs as very good. I was asked to learn Now That We're Dead (a track I actually like on their new album) I was quite excited then I saw the bass parts and said surely this can't be it. Then again Metallica has actually dropped the sound that made them very popular in the first place.

  14. I'd not heard of those, but that seems like a mental price for an OD pedal - at least give us more controls to fiddle with at that price

  15. The only reason I dont own a TS is because I have an SD-1 and for the life of me I can't see a reason why I'd want anything else. The money really goes towards other pedals in the mix like delays, etc as once you find your OD sound you really dont like straying from it too much. Its the same with a BD because once I tried the Boss I couldn't be arsed to try any of the others eventhough there are a plethora of ones made by some great companies out there. Have you heard of these guys? https://1981inventions.com/shop If you go on YT and try to see this thing compare to other pedals you start to wonder why anyone would pay that price. But, having said all that their white pedal is pure sex.

  16. I watched a ridiculously long comparison video between Ibanez Tubescreamers and all of the numerous clones of them... and tbh they all pretty much sound the same - probably the one "clone" that's the most different is the Boss SD-1, which is pretty much same circuit but with hard clipping instead of soft clipping according to the guy who runs JHS pedals. And tbh, I think I might like the SD-1 sound for boosting a high gain amp more than I like a Tubescreamer. I remember watching it around the time I was considering buying a Maxon 808 (supposedly the closest to the "original" tubescreamers since Maxon made them for Ibanez back then). Literally couldn't tell the difference at all between that model and the Ibanezes (or most of the clones). It's actually a big part of the reason I never really "upgraded" from my Bad Monkey - although for a while I was using the Angry Driver as an OD - I didn't think the difference in sound between a tubescreamer was that great... and I like the extra tone control the Bad Monkey has so I figured it's just not really worth the money to get another Tubescreamer variant until that pedal dies. And if I was in the market for one, I'd either get a Boss SD-1 or the Ibanez Mini-TS because they're cheap and they'll sound really really really really close to exactly what I'm going for with the pedal (if not exactly like it). Or if I was going to be less of a cheapskate (although tbh, with the music I play I think OD pedals are pretty crucial but you also don't need something very fancy), I'd maybe go with the JHS Bonsai as that's got the ability to make that EQ curve of the pedal mimic all sorts of different TS variants. But I mean for me and the way I use overdrives... it's the "traditional" metal way of using an overdrive. It's a "set and forget" sort of pedal - it's always on (unless I'm playing on the clean channel and going for an actual clean tone), there to tighten up my bass response. I don't really need anything fancier than a very basic TS type pedal, so anything cheap that does that... that's ideal. And if I'm not playing metal and using it as a lead boost... I pretty much keep the settings the same - but tbh I don't like the pedal as much for boosting leads - that's where a big more of a less-basic OD probably comes more in handy. Pretty remarkable pedal though as it's genre-fluid. Pretty much every genre you can find a guitarist with a tubescreamer (or very similar pedal) on their pedal board pretty quickly.

  17. There's a version of this album on youtube, called …And Justice for Jason, where the bass is actually audible (arguably, the bass is turned up a bit too high lol, but after a long long long time of hearing it with no bass I can't blame the creator for going overboard). Makes an absolutely massive difference in how the album sounds. I love that album, but I've always thought the production was pretty poor and it's probably because they've literally just fucked over their new bassist. I can't imagine how he felt tbh, he was excited to have joined his favourite band and looking forward to hearing himself on his first Metallica album. He says he was devastated, which is understandable I think.

  18. I like this comment after watching this video "I have literally never heard a story about Lars that actually improved my opinion of the guy." I don't think Jason was a bad bassist, far from it. Lars on the other hand is a control-freak and not a good one at that.

Local band from Guildford as well, they were my first in roads into the punk scene of the 70's one of the best bands out there in their time.. They had such a huge influence on my future music tastes.. Still listen to and enjoy their stuff even now.. Fuck you Covid-19..

  22. Everyone talking about the future economy, just legalise cannabis. It should be legal anyway, but legalising that would keep countries alive. Spain and Italy will need to do it especially. In Spain you can already smoke it legally in private places, such as the private clubs there or at home. But it's not legal or regulated at government level. If it was, we are speaking not millions but billions every year. I bet California isn't worse off from it now @Dr. Gonzo and Canada is booming. And then when it is legalised we can bring out a new strain called super covid #19.

  24. Lol. Some fair points mate but bikers I know (and cyclists for that matter) tend to go on big Sunday rides. I'll venture the far away chip shop is a route they've taken before and one they like to drive. On the road is like being in a car it's a pretty contained environment unlikely to expose to many others provided they manage social distancing appropriately in any interactions. Maybe this is two bikers that each live alone and are literally going out of their minds in isolation and just need to get the fuck out of the house to escape the suffocation of their loneliness. That is a definite wellbeing outlet. They could be two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet who are just at the end of their tether. Alternatively they could be absolute bellends that have gone riding everyday even once they developed a suspect cold they couldn't be arsed getting tested for. There's not enough information for me to be sure I should assume the worst about them.

  25. I agree with you about America. There is a worrying impatience coming through. I don't dismiss the economic impact argument though and I think there is a human argument to be made for getting the economy back firing.. A 20 year economic depression will be deadly and devastating and borne mostly by the younger generations and is absolutely something to be cautious about. Let's be honest about the bikers. They weren't going for fish and chips, they were going for a ride because their bikers and being on the road is what they do. They stopped for chips at the halfway point of their ride. I can sympathise with them copping fines and public shaming for this for two reasons 1. Because it's obviously a fairly low COVID risk exposure that's resulted from their actions in the scheme of COVID risk inducing activities. 2. Exercise is also a COVID risk exposure but it's one we accept because exercise is important to health and wellbeing. But maybe for bikers their wellbeing is more linked to being it on their bikes than going jogging. I'm fairly sympathetic to some infractions because everyone's different and have different breaking points. I don't presume to know them or judge them without more information.

  26. Great comparison really and unfortunately, it'll always be like that. Rando mentioned that 'Nobody's allowed to criticise Boris/Brexit/the Tories it seems these days without being a naive left-wing remoaner Corbynite communist Islamophile self-hating Britain-hating muppet', yet plenty from the left do the exact same thing but is somehow justified in doing so. I've seen a few times from Welsh nationalists that 'if you vote for the Tories, you hate Wales and can piss off to England if it's that bad'. Granted, there are others who want devolution abolished (which I don't agree with as we should have our own laws) due to frustration with the Welsh Labour-run Government after 20 uninterrupted years in power. This again sounds like a defence of the Tories when in all honesty, I just don't like sheer hypocrisy from either side, mainly when one party does one thing, gets criticised by the opposition but will then do something similar, defend what they do and the die hard supporters shout down at those who ciriticse them. It's why I tend to criticise the Welsh Government often as they have a habit of doing this. Anyway, I'll stop there as it's starting to go off topic and there's a topic for UK politics in general.

  27. It'll be a failure if the analysis of the UK late lockdown is driven by the concept of "exceptionalism" rather than a lack of transparency in technocracy. We only locked down once they had to air their research and conclusions and they could be openly scrutinised. They were allowed to get away with not doing that for too long. A level of trust was placed in them that might not have been with better open debate. When technocrats lock away they remove outside knowledge and input. Experts who aren't part of the inner circle are shut out. They remove outside pressure which is what people who support technocracies want. Those of scientific background who oppose the lockdown often blame public and media pressure for it coming about. Make no mistake, some nations technocrats backed lockdown and so get away with their lack of transparency but you can see even there more minor decisions which are questionable and they are expected to take it.

  29. Yeah but if you're traveling long distances for work right now in the UK, that's essential work. Whereas going to a famous chippy 200 miles away is definitely not essential. And again, we don't really know what contact they had with anyone and the restriction is the way it is right now with the purpose of slowing the spread.

  30. I don't know if that's fair on the staff, tbh. Obviously, I'm a bit biased as I'm a mod now - but I don't think that's really a fair interpretation of how that ban for Teso unfolded. And for the record, Marc wasn't banned - just suspended. His suspension is up, he's free to post here whenever (so long as he's not breaking the rules). I can't speak for the Cannabis stuff - I wasn't a mod, I don't know the full backstory or however that long. As for the Teso ban, I wouldn't say anyone made an easy or quick decision. Despite him being a habitual rule breaker that refused to play nicely with certain members despite several warnings over the years, he was the one who sort of forced our hand by making an insane private message with the person he was threatening... and literally every single mod and admin on here. It wasn't something anyone I wanted to do, in fact I'm pretty sure every member of staff was pretty annoyed he'd done something that couldn't really just be wiped away with another warning that would likely be ignored. Because no matter how you slice it, what he did was something that wasn't something that could really be warned away and he'd literally just shown that a suspension wouldn't change his behavior (because he just returned from a suspension), even if he "wasn't serious" with his threat.
