Subscriber Dan+ Posted June 28, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted June 28, 2021 England definitely have the biggest advantage in this tournament as if we made the final it would mean 6 of our 7 games were at home. But so be it. That's not really any different to any host nation having games. Can't help but feel our midfield might be a problem here. They're just simply not on the level of Germany's. Gundogan, Kroos, Kimmich, even Goretzka would start for us.

It was joke about how a lot England fans constantly go on about WW2 singing 10 german bombers, as if we're angels, highlighted by saying "vs a country who has never, ever, ever engaged in that sort of behaviour", irony was quite evident. I don't think Germans are Nazi's

Germans getting upset by the word nazi or ww2 would be like the English getting upset by the word coloniser, except German's have generally internalised their countries past aggressions and learnt from them, something we haven't done, hence the joke You got a decent sized nibble there though

But sure, 18 year old kids should just accept that and carry on, amirite. I would suggest going to a grownup German male and calling them "Nazi's reborn", and see for yourself how upset or not they'll get.

I wasn't calling anyone a "Nazi reborn", I'm aware going up to someone and calling them a Nazi would upset them, my post was in response to just mentioning the word Nazi. Again my post was a joke about English ignorance, being more interested in WW2 songs than the actual football. Saying Nazi's reborn and following it up with "vs a country that has never, ever engaged in that behaviour" (considering said country invaded 3/4 of the globe) highlighted how ludicrous that thinking is. Thought that was fairly obvious from the onset

A nibble as in I was responding to him, because the irony in my original post seemed obvious to me....not that my post got a nibble. I'm genuinely baffled it has been taken at face value and happy to admit it was a shit joke. But the joke was literally on the country who has invaded 3/4 of the globe (England, not Germany) and instead focus' on Germany, considering this is a forum that regularly jokes about people burning in house fires I would have thought it'd be safe to assume that the phrase Nazi's Reborn was laced in irony. It literally consumes large parts of English football fan culture which was why I made the post, the song comes out near enough every time England play. Even when I lived in New Zealand, every pub I went to to watch England during the World Cup had at least one rendition of the song, 10 German Bombers and No Surrender (anti-Irish) are almost exclusive songs to a large portion of England fan's experience of the England football team when the international games come around, especially when we play Germany. Again going back to the DIAHF stuff, this forum has always leant towards darker jokes which was why I said it, if I had thought that people would have taken it at face value then I wouldn't have posted it. Lucas
It would be so weird for Harry Kane to go the whole tournament without bagging. Surely he gets on the scoresheet tomorrow. He was so close against the Czech's, you do feel like it's coming, even if it's just a penalty.

I think this has been the most frustrating part in all this; Germany's strength is in the midfield. I understand conceding Kimmich to RB.. I dont like it but I understand it. 3-4-3 is the reason we see a completely ineffective Gündogan and a fairly toothless attack. Unless we get the freedom afforded by Portugal where Gosen's and Kimmich had free reins of the flanks there just isnt anything going forward. Goretzka will help and definitely eliminating the false 9 nonsense will help to so in short I agree with you 100%. TBH Im most looking forward to a future with Flick. Not so sure why there's a 'surely' about him getting on the scoresheet! He didn't take that chance against the Czechs (which 99% of the time he usually would), but also the service to him hasn't been anywhere near as frequent as would have been expected or even wanted. Germany may not be setting the world alight right now but it's still a big jump in quality compared to the group stage. I don't think he'll score tomorrow and in fact I think it might be even more difficult for him to do so.
