Guardiola sometimes complicates things more than he should.

Starting Sané as a left back... :dam:You gotta put your players in a spot where they can perform well, not set them for failure. Also, the Aguero-Jesus partnership simply doesn´t work. I don´t get why he insisted on it.

Tactically spot on from Koeman, would have held out on another day.

Can't really expect anything else but a grindy performance from us with 7 defensive players starting outfield. We weren't "dire" at all, we just played defensively because to try and outgun this City side would be stupid unless you're Real Madrid. We don't currently have a top striker despite Otamendi' s efforts to make Calvert-Lewin look like one, Sandro is injured and our major attacking signing Sigurdsson has barely kicked a ball since May.

Much rather be negative and "dire" and get a point than be positive and "brave" and get twatted 4-0 for the sake of a few dozen randomers on social media praising us for "having a go".

Jagielka, Keane, Pickford, Holgate, Calvert-Lewin my stand outs tonight.

I don't think City will persist with two upfront, I don't think it's worked yet and to me it just seems a cop-out from needing to drop either Aguero or Jesus.

Plus, Bernardo Silva looked quality, him in the side over either of those two would mean City playing a lot better imo.

How can you be so rattled by one word?

On what planet did that post come across as rattled? I only disagreed.

Perhaps the third paragraph is a bit scathing but that's a product of my underlying distaste of football fans on social media, not what anyone else said here.

The fact you put the word dire in brackets more than once suggested it...

Now let me back that up. I thought you were dire - mainly because of the set up, and when they went down to 10 it took Koeman too long to make adjustments. You actually played better against 11 in my opinion. As soon as they went down to 10 you were barely able to string three passes together. Calvert-Lewin played up front on his own, but apart from that there was a lack of quality. The defence dropped deeper and deeper and City really should have punished you more than they did. I appreciate they're a quality side but you had every opportunity to take the game by the scruff of the neck and actually go on to make your man advantage count, but it was like they were scared to impose themselves.  Certainly the personnel didn't help but I'd certainly feel like it was a missed opportunity to really stamp your mark on the league early.

All this comes with a caveat however. I'd much rather take a point at city playing badly, than play well and lose as we did yesterday. I really think you'll be one of very few teams to get anything at all there this season, so in that respect it's an excellent point, but for me it could and should have been so much better.

Yeah but I don't think we necessarily have the players to take it by the scruff of the neck right now. Give it another 3 weeks, a fully fit Sigurdsson, hopefully a new striker and Klaassen having more of an impact on games and it'll be different, fingers crossed.

how did city look? Did we deserve a point? Given walker getting sent off think we did well to get something.

Toothless and naive across the park for majority of the game. Walker slightly harsh to see red. Referee had a shocker all game. You guys played like you were trying too hard to make something happen (Aguero was unusually hesitant in front of goal). Everton set up well to defend and hit on the counter and Rooney's goal seemed to knock City back. But you piled on the pressure as the 2nd half went on and it told when Sterling volleyed well in to the corner.

I'd say you're more fortunate than Everton for getting a point. Probably feels like a loss to Everton more than it feels like a draw for you guys.

Got to win the game a man up with 10 to go. I don't care who we play, if have any hope of finishing in that top 4 we've got to get the 3 points there.

Michael Keane is, comfortably, the best central defender in this division.

Thought Everton invited trouble a bit too much there, HK85 spot on for me, to not win from a goal and man up in any game is poor in my eyes.

I think Everton's games will have the least goals in them of any side in the league this year, but they will have a good season as they look well organised.

Travesty that Schneiderlin and Walker won't be in action next week yet Madley will.

Depends how the rest of the window goes and whether we get a striker in and whether that striker is an actual striker or another Niasse/Valencia 8th choice transfer target striker.

Pickford and Keane look like absolute quality additions though, I'll be disappointed if our defensive record isn't in the top 4 or so. Jagielka was also class tonight but he won't play like that week in week out.

A striker is vital isn't it? Got to hope there's someone out there for us because as much as I like DCL in that position he's not ready just yet and Sandro could go any way.

Koeman strikes me as quite defensive by nature. Not a criticism at all just an observation. It's a weakness the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City still have, very seldom do they win ugly.

Fuck off Pep with your wacky formations, 3 CB's and a fullback??  you are not in a mickey mouse league now, this is real football. the early sending off spoiled the game, ref should get fined for being so poor. below par performance from us today, Danilo, Bernardo and Sterling made a difference when they came on and have to start the next game. Gundogan and Mendy must be close to a return too

He should play this team till Aguero finds form again, then add Mendy & Gundogan when they are fit to play

Ederson

Walker - Kompany - Stones - Danilo

Sterling - Bernardo - De Bruyne - Silva - Sane

Jesus

Think he just sets up based on the opposition in these games. At home from January onwards we've been very forward thinking as you've seen yourself. Probably why we haven't won many games away since he's come in.

Didn't realise how bad Everton's record away from home actually was under Koeman. A mate just posted it on Facebook... It's appalling.
