Look at the struggles you have today with squad depth. It's not out of this world to suggest some players should have been bought. We have 10 players out injured. Fuck me work it out. You don't just go out and buy anyone knowing that 10 players will be fit and well in a few weeks. Our transfer strategy had been spot on throughout Klopp's reign. I'll stick with that over @Rickand his random 'sign anybody' strategy.
Tar-Mairon Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Fernandes is a cheat, the kind of player who you actually want to see knocked out.
Dr. Gonzo Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Just now, Spike said: How many are you actually missing? Thiago, Nunez, Jota and Matip? The others just make up the numbers. I think given the state of our midfield, Thiago, Jones, Keita and the Ox (I might be in the minority... but he's more useful than Keita) would all be pretty useful. Jota we desperately need because Firmino looks well passed it now. Idk if we miss Nunez or not because it's early days, he probably would have started with Jota out now. Idk how Fernandes is still on the pitch after that btw.

Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted August 22, 2022 Subscriber Posted August 22, 2022 Fancy Liverpool to equalise. United have seemed to take their foot off the gas a little bit and Liverpool have put theirs down.

It's fine to agree with Klopp's strategy (and you'd be foolish not to) but also realise you perhaps need better depth. They don't have to be and aren't mutually exclusive.

Dr. Gonzo Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 1 minute ago, Stan said: Yeah cos Kelleher would play when Alisson is fit Matip, Jota and Thiago are the big misses. Ramsay? Who? Tbf, Alisson's injured a lot for a starting keeper and I'd rather have Kelleher on the bench than Adrian. I think Jones is a big miss too. Ramsay's someone we signed over the summer. 4 central midfielders and our one actual proven striker when we've: 1.) not got much quality in CM currently, and 2.) have no proven striker currently are definitely big misses. Both CB injuries I think are also big for us, although mitigated a bit with Gomez actually being fit for once. But that's really 3 very injury prone players at CB leaving us one freak injury away from having to start Nat Philips next week if we're unlucky. I think it's pretty clear looking at the squad we've got an absurd amount of injury prone players in: Matip, Gomez, Konate, Thiago, Keita, Oxlade Chamberlain, Jones. 2 of the most crucial positions on the pitch and we've sort of fucked our depth by relying on players with unreliable fitness.

Rick Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Konate, Matip, Thiago & Jota are the injured players who would affect this 11. The rest are either second choice (Kelleher) or completely inadequate (Ox, Keita). Plenty of players in Europe who could come in and be good options for either the first 11 or the squad. Tell me we can’t find better than Chamberlain as a squad player.
Danny Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 It’s the same conversation. Liverpool could clearly do with an extra midfielder, but there isn’t an infinite pool of money to spend and so that midfielder has to be the right choice for not just now but the next 4-8 years. Just chucking names out with no plan for how they will actually fit into the team is mad.
Spike Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I'm not a Liverpool fan but I'd say that Keita, Tsimakis, Diaz, and Konate trasnfers all range from mediocre to bad.

As in, not sign anybody, but sign wisely? Especially with the knowledge that Milner/Henderson don't appear to be fully fit or can't last a full 90 anymore... Oxlade-Chamberlain should have been gone ages ago.

Rick Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Konate is class to be fair and should be starter when fit. Not having this “no money” shite either. The money is there.

We look absolute dogshit, it'll be a struggle for us to make top 4. You've maybe got Arsenal or Spurs to worry about, but even then... I think you'll run away with the league. It's too early in the season yet mate, coming back from 10pts behind is possible. we are light on senior players only having 4 CB's, 3 FB's 8 MIDS and 2 strikers, 5 or 6 players go down and we are looking at the Academy for players

I think Konate's great tbh. Diaz looked better when he first joined, but generally... we looked better when he first joined. Tsimikas is just a squad player and has been pretty handy when called upon for the most part. Keita's the only one I'd call a bad transfer. And even then, he's not been terrible. He's just not as good as he probably should have been given the hype when he joined and is unreliable because of injury prone-ness.

Mate their finances have been done to death, most of their money goes into player bonus’ to manage consistent high performances from a small group of players. They are not going to waste the money they can afford for a Bellingham on James Maddison
6666 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I know why players hang on to the ball after conceding near the end and I'm sure his teammates appreciate it but it still should be okay for a player to deck you for it. Where's Darwin Nunez when you need him?
