Saw a funny tweet today that Liverpool are doing to Southampton the same thing Barcelona are doing to them and the same thing PSG did to Barcelona, and somehow everyone's crying about it. That's the hypocrisy of football.

(Not saying all fans are crying about but some from each party)

The timing matters mate.  Were this all playing out in early July and therefore given us chance of replacing him then maybe id have been more open to it.

Barcelona told Coutinho to force a transfer request? xD

This gets funnier and funnier.

They planted enough stories to unsettle him. But it has been fairly typical stuff really.

What story did FC Barcelona plant?

Expect more stories about Coutinho being unhappy over the weekend, whether they are planted or true.

Latest tweet on the United boards says he does not want to play for Liverpool anymore, claiming his relationship with Klopp is poor.

Leaked to their usual media outlets the version of events they wished to be true rather than the one that was actually true.

And where's the evidence of this happening?

What particular piece of info for example...  Which piece of information do you either reckon or have heard the club have leaked to the media and then which media outlet which is also a very interesting thing I'd like to know.

I would think i could go back and submit nearly every article you've yourself described or referenced in this thread to date that had emanated from the Spanish press.

Sources close to the club say....

This is all just pure manufactured news to sell papers? Or does it help to control the media cycle and build momentum and help turn  a players head?

I'm not saying its something noone else does just saying it is undoubtedly a part of the situation.

I don't really know what Coutinho has done wrong here (and I'm not fishing). If sources are to be believed he's told Liverpool that he wanted to leave ages ago but wanted to do so amicably. As Liverpool have rejected this request (which they have every right to) he's gone onto the next stage of the process by officially asking to leave. I understand that the timing isn't great but it isn't as though this has come out of the blue.

So far, nothing, but this has the makings of getting very ugly in the next days. But what I really don´t understand is that Coutinho has recently signed a long term contract without a release clause. In my opinion quite a dumb thing to do if you´re unsure of your future in the club.

In free countries, journalists have the right to protect their sources, so your questions can´t be answered by any of us. But many big transfers involving Barcelona and Real Madrid follow the same pattern; 1) spanish newspaper announces a deal is reached out of the blue; 2) other club denies; 3) the said player suddenly start to cause trouble; 4) move to Spain is completed (the time it takes vary, obviously).

We fans don´t have proof, but this is not a criminal procedure, it´s just a football forum, and we´re free and have decent reason to draw the conclusion that both Real Madrid and Barcelona use the local media to unsettle players.

What?

That's the patern it takes everywhere. Do you think signings appear out of the blue here in the Premier League?

Do you know how many times they get it wrong everywhere including Spain?

Who leaked the Neymar stuff to PSG?

So what have Barcelona done wrong in the Coutinho situation?

Never seen a transfer request in my life in the Premier League were it hasn't been connected to Barça or any Spanish club. Never happened before! :dam:

And on protecting sources! Viva la libertad because otherwise I dare not even start to think how we'd all be living.

Amazing how Coutinho's agent is not getting stick. Reckon he is the one who is really pushing this deal, as oppose to Coutinho being okay with waiting. Just a guess this, on my part.

Is this terrible? Well, if he doesn't leave and comes back and scores a goal, all will be forgotten. Remember, Suarez thought of even suing the club when Arsenal were courting him, and then he came back and started scoring goals, and everyone forgot about that. Hope Coutinho does the same, has a stellar season and then, he can fuck off to Barcelona.

Suarez in this cartoon

That cartoon has been out for three weeks now.  It's by a Catalan artist that does some really funny stuff. xD

Klopp clearly doesn't have a clue what's going on with transfers. Another yes man unfortunately.

Not sure how you can slag off Klopp here, he's been defiant all through which only drives up Coutinho's price.

Liverpool shouldn't sell, but it looks as if they do they will get 110million pounds which is a far more laughable fee than Pogba went for. Barcelona are absolutely losing it.

Not slagging Klopp, just pointing out that he doesn't have the influence that some think he does

It's more a case of English fans not understanding what a head coach is and still fixed on what we used to have with managers or I don't know what's going on.

How can you question how much influence Klopp has?

He can put names forward but the technical staff should've been doing their homework all season (those that are concerned with these matters) because their job isn't to sit back and watch matches when it isn't a transfer window.

He can put names forward and the technical staff will take it into consideration with what the player may or may not cost and including his wages.  From that point his influence ends!  There is nothing else he can do and the same goes for a player that may want to leave...  He can tell them that he wants to keep him and then they will deal in the manner most responsible to the club's finances and the pressure the player in question is putting in to leave.  Anything else above that and Klopp is acting beyond his jurisdiction as head coach.  He has a squad, his job is to administer that squad in the best manner possible by getting the best out of them with his knowhow, with what a coach is meant to be good at.  If he's doing more work than that then it's no wonder so many things go wrong because he's never done that before.

Barce General Manager announces that the club are close to signing Coutinho (and Dembele). Unsurprisingly off of the back of a humiliating defeat to Real Madrid.

Classic Barce tactics or are they actually close to signing him?

You have to know what's going on to understand the reasons behind such a statement.  Everything keeps being thrown at Barça in such a ridiculous manner!

These aren't tactics...  This is desperation from the board because they're are being bombarded from all corners (media, fans and potential candidates for election)...  This is an "auto-defence" comment from the media's questions surrounding all the errors that have been made in recent years with this present board.  There are posts in the relevant spaces of this forum explaining more or less what's going on.  This present board will try to calm the situation down by bringing in new signings as quickly as possible.  They are in panic mode!

Barcelona have been negotiating with Liverpool fair and square for the signing of Coutinho.  They have done absolutely nothing other than what every club does.

They've just announced hes close to signing so either it's true that he is and Liverpool have accepted a bid or Liverpool are still yet to accept a bid and he's made the statement which would be a tactic to get the signing over the line, regardless of how desperate the board maybe.

Not much wrong with what I said.

Barcelona and Pep Segura didn't make ANY statement mate.  I'm saying you haven't been informed.  An interview with a question isn't an announced statement.  He was asked as to how the potential signings (Coutinho and Dembélé) were going (this after last night's game which is where the press usually corner board members.  He answered with "they're going well and an announcement could be made soon".  There's nothing wrong there.

this probably is the funniest of transfer windows we've seen so far.    with barcelona as it's main clown.     i see no reason for coutinho to leave Liverpool, they're a good side, granting they don't have injuries along the way and that they don't crumble against pressure just like last year.
