  1. They have surpassed China's death toll and with half as many cases. Scary shit, even if Italy is one the countries with the most elderly in the world. Spain ain't looking too good now either with over 17,000 cases and over 800 deaths. I notice a pattern though, the number of cases are growing like fuck in the north and central part of the country but the south, while it has cases, doesn't seem to be having anywhere near the amount of cases rising everyday. Maybe once the heatwave hits the whole of Spain in the next month or so, it may help contain this virus. One thing I find interesting(if that's the word to use here) is how much the cases have risen there, as they were behind France and Germany, but have now eclipsed their number of cases. Still though, France and Germany have been hit hard enough themselves and the UK now has 2,600+ cases, which will be 4,000 by tomorrow, we are just behind them. Speaking of heatwaves, it's fucking freezing here in England so if this virus does thrive in the cold, then we are fucked. As it stands, we aren't on shutdown like other countries and I don't have a sense of it being "Erie", but rather tense and heated. I've nearly had two full on fist fights at work this week, this is all because of the virus. Everyone's head is up their arse as they know subconsciously that something serious is occurring, something none of us have experienced. I also believe there will be shitloads of looting in England before long. If I end up out of work then I'm going to either start up a little thing where I do all the elderly and vulnerable shopping in the area, or go out on the streets helping the army and police spray fuck out of everything, or whatever else they have to do. I feel as though it's my duty to do something. Besides, being sat at home all day watching the tele speaking about the thing which is preventing us from going out will likely create mental health issues I believe. It could be the end of my sanity, this is my biggest fear as I'm not exactly the most mentally stable of people anyway. What's Amsterdam looking like at the moment? @Panna King, @Panflute

  2. I think it’s inevitable now China is going to come under quite a bit of international pressure to improve its sanitary standards because this isn’t the first time a flu pandemics have come out of their markets. I think it will also be used to justify trade wars and protectionism by all. This will wake countries up to the importance of supply chains for important resources. bizarre choice of words you were the coronavirus in WW2

  5. Italy have now got the largest number of deaths from this disease and surpassed China for the largest death toll. It's not looking like letting up either. To everyone on the European continent stay safe.

  6. Told to work from home today. Didn't discover until I tried it that the laptop was not properly set up so I've just had to salvage whatever I can from emails. Same again tomorrow. Should enjoy it I supppse but I hate being sat here waiting for time to pass or something to happen. Only so much I can do and it's not fair on my colleagues as well as they're still going full pelt. Hate the WFH thing. Enjoy the boundaries and contrast of being at work and being at home. Can't get on with the two mixing. Doesn't help I usually have a shocking attention span and no-one's around at home to keep me in line

  8. I feel for companies and individuals that work for such companies where they've immediately had to make employees work from home. Sometimes the infrastructure just isn't there - from equipment, connectivity, accessibility etc. In some cases people's world's have totally changed even if it is relatively temporary. Working from home isn't for everyone. I know that when the company I work for introduced it for is, a lot of people took time to adapt, some way more than others and dare I say the older generation it took longer. It's not as easy or luxurious all the time. But people have been forced to do it. I hope companies are patient and tolerant with their employees about it. Alternatively, I hope it makes people realise you don't need a fucking meeting for every single thing and an e-mail will suffice !

  9. Well, me and the family are officially self isolating for the next 14 days, my mother has a cough and flu like symptoms. As is a colleague from work, who’s husband was sent home from his job for coughing. Advised by NHS to stay home, and work also told us not to go in, not that I would have. Ive just had 10 days holiday so I don’t feel ready for more time off work, but to hell if I’m putting anybody at risk. For the record, I do not believe my mother has contracted the virus, she has a cough but no complaints of difficulty breathing and we tested her temperature and it was completely normal. BUT, better to be safe than sorry.

  10. Yeah I can imagine it's equally as bad in branches, if not worse, than for us in the offices. I presume every bank is experiencing basically the same problems. A lot of our branches are having to reduce opening hours to due to staff shortages, and most appointments are being cancelled. This is something each branch is having to decide on it's own; there's no overarching policy. So we are told to refer to branch as required (security checks, document hand-ins, etc), and book appointments if the customer wants one, in the knowledge that there's a high likelihood that they're not going to be seen. Again, because this isn't happening as part of some overarching policy, we aren't to communicate these issues to customers. If they turn up and the branch is shut, or their appointment is cancelled, then that's just an "individual" branch issue. Everything is falling apart at the seams, but on paper we are just supposed to be soldiering on as if nothing has happened. It's a feeling a lot of people in a lot of workplaces have at the moment, I can guess.

  11. This whole pandemic reaching UK has opened people's eyes to the best and worst of society. The worst being those cunts stockpiling for absolulely no reason and having no care in the world for fellow members of their local communities. Sheer panic leading to utterly nonsensical decisions and total selfishness. Total lack of awareness and disregard for anything but themselves. Then to the other more positive extreme you see loads of businesses and smaller organisations going the extra mile and offering out delivery services while their restaurants are shut. Members of the community offering delivery services to those isolated or vulnerable/elderly. I really hope that most people come out of this whole catastrophe with a new found respect for the finer things in life. To ask for all people to do so would just be deluded. Not everything revolves around work, being overworked & underpaid and getting little to no recognition for going further than normal. There are more important things in life - friends/family, respecting others in society & the community. A respect for life let's say given how many people could be affected, directly or indirectly, by Coronavirus. Sadly I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. It dawned on me even more today there's gonna be a long time coming of all this doom and gloom.

  12. Things are getting pretty grim at work. I work customer service for a high street bank. We're at under half strength with people sent home or off sick, and the number of calls is getting overwhelming. It's like Christmas or New Year, but worse, and with less staff. Today our automated directory broke, meaning people were being routed to the wrong teams for their queries, or being left on hold for hours, or being hung up on after hours of waiting. We've not yet worked out a comprehensive policy on mortgage holidays - things are still being assessed on a case-by-case basis. We're also dealing with lots of desperate or misinformed people who call under the impression that there are schemes offering reprieves on loan repayments, or even emergency overdraft facilities. People are broke, and when told that there isn't really any way set up for us to extend emergency funds to them, they're basically reduced to begging over the phone. Most people are sound, and almost apologetic for taking up our time. Some people are obviously very tense and the stress understandably is getting to them. A large number of people are obviously still being pricks and wasting our time complaining about stupid shit like our interest rate reductions - at a time when UK rates are at a historic low - or calling us because they've mindlessly thumped the wrong details into our website 5 times and locked themselves out of their accounts.

  13. What? He's constantly called it a hoax and played it down and only changed his tune when he realised how serious it was getting. What's respectable about that ?! You're seriously disrespected Abraham Lincoln at the same time. Well done. It's very weird logic.

  15. Whatever happens as a result of it spreading the way it has stay safe and I think what you're going to do is a good deed but as I said before just stay safe. At times like these you're never sure what can happen and being safe around the elderly who are the biggest ones to get his in all of this is just as important as being precautious.

  19. Started working from home yesterday. It's ok but the lack of chatting with colleagues in the office and general socialising is not great. Having two dogs does help kind. My old man is under threat of redundancy as well as he works in a hotel. Also, supermarkets and supply chains are confirming that they're buckling under the strain of the thick fucking cunts. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51961624 Cheers you thick fucking cunts.

  20. Where possible, they should get drivers to race in their cars to the next race to catch up. Silverstone race finishes. Get on a ferry to Amsterdam. Complete Zandvoort, go to Spa, race to Magny-Cours, down to Spain, up to Monaco, through to Italy then on to Austria. Bit of a break for everyone else to catch-up and then get to the next continent. Most likely Azerbaijan onwards... Easy.

  23. Same boat as @nudge (lucky me). I can't ever see myself working in an office full-time again after having the experience of being home-based. I work much better planning my own time and we have quite flexible hours to work in (it's not strict 9-5). My routine is 8.30 - 4.30 but it could be be 10-6 if I want to. As long as I do my hours and get my work done, there's no issue. Whenever I do go in to the office I now realise I end up spending so much time catching up with people I don't regularly see and most of the time is not spent doing work.

  24. To me the word colleague implies a degree of camaraderie whereas a co-worker just indicates a person who works at the same office. I was certainly not meaning the former when I talked about annoyances

  27. Totally misunderstood what I was trying to say - My intention was totally to support what you are having to do against the outside adults who are probably causing you more problems than the kids. The assessment idea is only new to those who have never had to do it or consider writing an end of term report. Apologies if it was my old-fashioned logic which gave you the wrong impression - sometimes even us wrinklies can get frustrated at what Councils and politicians are doing to interfere with education rather than just shutting up and supporting those at the sharp end! The best head I ever worked under had two bins in his office - one was for all the stuff the local authority sent him and which normally was full of unopened envelopes. Times, I assume, have not really changed since then!

  29. For the first point, I don't think I have to explain how much things have changed since the 60s, you're seriously underestimating the entitlement of modern day students and their parents. If I fairly award a B grade to a student and they think they have an A, we could hear about it for months on end. The days of being trusted as a professional are long gone. As for the younger/older argument, you're totally stereotyping. I'm one of the youngest teachers in my setting and also one of the calmest. Anyone who is anxious has every reason to be for the reasons I've stated in the previous post. To suggest that the silly young teachers will appreciate the calming influence of older teachers just because they're older is patronising because the majority, like me, aren't panicking, they're simply trying to do everything they can to get organised and limit the damage to the kids education.

  36. According to the tweet bellow, in terms of air quality, Northern Italy is probably the worst place in Europe. Also, I´ve tried to check if this makes sense and it does. 13 of the 50 most polluted cities in Europe are in Italy. https://www.iqair.com/world-most-polluted-cities?continent=59af92ac3e70001c1bd78e52&country=&state=&page=1&perPage=50&cities= I´m not saying this is the main cause, but there must be something to do, at least. It could also be a factor in Iran. Tehran is surrounded by mountains, right?
