Just about to post this.

Obscene price for someone who's only won a domestic cup. But then again, a lot of prices for younger players are for the potential as opposed to actual current value.

The fee is a fruit of some very specific and exceptional circumstances. Barcelona didn't have much leverage after Neymar's exit, they needed a winger and everyone knew they were sitting on 222 million euros. For all of their mistakes, Barcelona's board got it really right in signing Dembélé.

Unreal price tag. Good player, but absolutely insane price tag.

This reminds of the inflation in 16th-century Spain. They had so much silver from Potosí that it wasn't really worth much in the end. I think that was the case with the Neymar fee. Those 222 millions in reality devaluated, especially considering they had only one month to fill the gaps in their squad. This was about getting the player that made the most sense to replace Neymar and Barça did. Like I said, their board generally does dumb stuff, but in this case I think they did well.

When did you become a Monchengladbach fan?

The price unfortunately means nothing. That's the market right now and if you want to reach for achievement and competitiveness, then this what needs to be done.

Very happy with this particular deal!

If you want to stay competitive, you have to spend now. Remember this... At Barcelona they don't have shareholders to think about. The board members practicall don't get paid... They (the board) win because of what it means to work for the brandname. That's the nature of a fan run club.

The money HAS to be pumped into remaining competitive.

Incredibly happy with this deal, this boy is an absolute gem! However, it is vital to remember he is only 20, so we'd be wise not to expect too much from him in the beginning; patience is key.

In the short term it is obviously a downgrade from Neymar but long term ( maybe even medium to long term ) he has the potential to be an upgrade; the kid is the real deal. Looking forward to his debut against Espanyol!

Dembele - 32 games / 2000` scored 6 goals and 13 assist; in CL 10 games / 770` scored 2 goals and 6 assists
Mbappe - 29 games / 1500` scored 15 goals and 11 assists; in CL 9 games / 536` scored 6 goals

This signing still doesnt improve their declining midifeld.

They will get Seri, and I am assuming Suarez/Roberto will get a lot of game time.

Mbappe also played in a weaker league. Dembele scored 12 in 26 in the same league(Ligue 1) the season before, for a weaker side.

Not like stats alone matter as both players are still very young with a lot of time ahead of them.

It's a ridiculous fee though but purely from a footballing perspective, it's a signing that makes sense, even if it is a gamble due to his age.

xD jesus christ. Its okay for barcelona to pay a SILLY amount of money for someone who is unproven but you cried and moan about Neymar leaving. at least neymar is a proven player and worth 4 times what dembele is worth. there is no point in debating with you... anything barcelona does you find a way to excuse it.

Funny that you'd bring arithmetic into this. 97,000,000 * 4 = 388,000,000 which is 166,000,000 more than Neymar's fee of 222,000,000.

i could always relate these young players to Robinho.    Hailed as  THE NEXT ( whatever ) ... but unceremoniously faded away.

it's amazing to think that clubs would pay for such amount for "potential" .. rather than proven.

upgrade for neymar???? :rofl: never and he could also end up being another coman

Whatever happened to Coman btw? he was supposed to be the next big thing. Apparently he was arrested on domestic assault charges.

This whole Bayern team just doesn't have that "fear factor" anymore. Under Heynckes' reign, they were invincible.

The France squad is loaded with talent and is one of the favorites for the 2018 World Cup. Germany and Brasil being the other favorites.

Conceivably Argentina too.

A World Cup Final with Argentina vs Brasil? (I know Brasil tends not to do well in recent World Cups held in Europe but that truly would be something special. We've had the all-European Finals, now time for an all-South American one).

Football is 11 vs 11 but everyone wants to watch Neymar vs Messi.

Whoever wins it will surely win next season's Ballon d'Or (assuming their respective clubs progress deep into the knockout stages of the Champions League). One of the reasons Neymar left Barca.

As you can see, Neymar has an path/avenue to the coveted Ballon d'Or with this dangerous Brazilian team that he simply didn't have before.

On a Brazilian theme: 'bélé the new Pele?

He had a very promising first season, followed by a mediocre season last year with some injuries to boot. Hes due in court in September, hes plead guilty and the club has stood by him, also exercised the option mid summer making his deal permanent before the domestic debacle.
