How has covid affected you?

I do think this is a separate topic and does need it's own thread.

How has covid affected you? What I have noticed is that I am much more socially anxious than I use to be. I worry what people think a lot more. E.g when I use to swim I never worried what people were thinking. Now I'm quite self conscious.

I also find it harder to think and concentrate. My memory is noticeably worse as well

How about you??

The hardest part was supporting a friend as his dad slowly died in a horrific fashion.

On a personal level my physical health has deteriorated relative to where it was before this. I've noticed a drop of social confidence and ease of doing the basics in socialisation caused by 2 years of limited contact.

I try not to think about it tbh, there is so much news of it floating around in the media it tends to give me a bloody headache, I have even snapped at the wife if she is reading something about Covid and she mentions it to me, I tend to think there are a hell lot of other issues going on around the world atm that are just as deadly as bloody Covid.

I try to think similar to this really.

Unfortunately, due to the way the media continues to portray Covid, my mam and sister continue to be very OCD with it all (my sister especially), an example being that my sister wipes every produce down with an antibacterial wipe simply because the UK media has said Covid can be spread by people touching items.

Your sister sounds like the wife, she has gone paranoid with this, "was your hands..." especially with the grandsons when they visit or even our son & daughter, it has become a routine with me now that if I am going to make myself something to eat or drink I will always wash my hands first.

I can't even pick my nose now with the wife watching me like a bloody hawk and even if I fart I will make sure I do it out of the room when she is around. O.o

It's ridiculous really.

Another example is when the media mentioned that Covid had been found in a couple of cats and dogs in 2020. When my dog touched noses with another dog, she actually wiped antibacterial gel on my dog's nose.

She got an absolute bollocking for it.

Just feels like normal life now.

It’s been a journey though, especially living alone. Been up and down at times in certain scenarios, and finding a new side to me I didn’t know existed.

Sad thing is children are growing up thinking this is normal now, they don't know a world without tests and masks.

I just want travel to become easier, even though I've been on holiday three times since the start of the pandemic each time has been a complete headache in terms of worries.

The airport used to be the start of my holiday, now its basically a pain in the arse.

Fully agree, international travel used to be fun, now it's just a stressful and annoying pain in the arse. Keeping up with the ever-changing exit requirements, entry requirements, airline requirements, testing requirements, vaccination requirements, a shitload of health declaration forms and passenger locator forms to fill out and QR codes to save, different insurance policies and whatnot. And then there's also a chance of testing positive abroad and being locked up in some shitty "quarantine center" for weeks xD

We have close relations who we visit and vice versa throughout the year pre-covid. They're our closest relations and we've done this manner of visiting and staying over all our lives.

After the first lockdown we hadn't seen each other for around 6 months. Even without lockdowns the visits were rare and we never embraced fully just to play it safe.

After a 6 month break. Upon visiting it felt fucking awkward and strange. Nobody knew what to say, was odd as anything and hard to explain.

Probably shouldn't have sniffed their feet right away.

Fortunately not much - yet. February 5th we open back up. Then it’s going to be upsetting. Already fearing what’s going to happen with schooling. But, see how we go. Will do my best to protect myself and my family.

I've always hated airports and flying - but now they've made it even more of a pain in the arse.

Generally speaking, COVID's affected me negatively in a lot of regards.

Lockdown was hard for everyone, myself included, but I think what hurts the most about the lockdowns is I had a friend decide he could no longer take the isolation anymore and hang himself. A lot of people I know, myself included, felt guilty that we couldn't have done something to pull him out of his mental state despite not being able to go round to his house or anything. It felt like while we were meant to physically isolate, we could have done more to engage with him digitally or something.

Covid's also probably made me more pessimistic about things generally.

I've lost some family members to the disease, my wife's lost some family members to the disease, friends have lost parents.

Mentally, I think the pandemic has been very testing for me personally.

Awful that.

I think everyone's mental state has taken a battering personally.

Whether it's stress, alcohol, lack of enthusiasm. Everyone has been hugely pushed over the last two years.

Sorry to hear about your friend, that really is a sad story.

If the way we're living now is going to be the norm then something is going to have to give.  As mentioned here and in other threads, people can't continue to live like that... it's a strain on their physical and emotional well-being.  My wife's aunt has been locked away in her home for going on 2-years now because she's deathly afraid of catching the virus and I genuinely feel that it has changed her forever.

It sickens me that COVID is in all the headlines and the media continues to feed the flames.  The world is in a continuous cycle of fear, guilt, and depression and it's become wholly ridiculous at this point.  I'm not afraid of getting the virus, but I'm not going to go out and lick handrails either.  Take the necessary precautions and let's get on with our lives.  The reason we got the vaccine was to expedite a return to normalcy.  Are we going to flinch at every variant that comes along now?  Enough is enough.

I'm in my mid 50s and I got fed up with travelling with the war on terror and having to queue up and take your shoes off and then remove any liquids from your hand luggage.

Being a traditional Brit it just seemed way OTT.

I lived with that and only travelled to see family.

This appears even worse with the risk of showing as infected as a part of travelling from A to B and then the consequent lock-downs.

No one on this thread is laughing about it.  I'm just saying I'm not going to cower in fear in my home because the government says I should.
