Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted July 13, 2020 Subscriber Posted July 13, 2020 10 million fine. Can't even pretend to be shocked.
Michael Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 The court of arbitration for sport, has overturned Manchester City's two year ban from the Champions League for a serious breach of UEFA's financial fair play rules. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/13/manchester-city-champions-league-ban-lifted-cas-court-of-arbitration-for-sport#:~:text=Manchester City's Champions League ban lifted by court of arbitration for sport&text=Manchester City's two-year ban,£9m) from €30m.
Smiley Culture Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 As expected. FFP and UEFA are both equally utterly pointless. Why punish the nouveau rich when you can ban clubs in smaller countries?
Inverted Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Their legal fees probably came out somewhere around 10 million euros already.
Administrator Stan Posted July 13, 2020 Administrator Posted July 13, 2020 I was interested in the outcome of this decision up to about 8pm last night.
Bluewolf Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Don't think anyone will be really shocked at this outcome... we could all pretty much see it coming

Subscriber Dan+ Posted July 13, 2020 Subscriber Posted July 13, 2020 You almost have to laugh at how wrong our season has gone. Suppose in the bigger picture the end of FFP can't be a bad thing.

Financial "Fair" Play is already designed to maintain the status quo and protect the clubs who are already in the Champions League. Now it appears that it's okay for the richest clubs with the greatest means to spend beyond those means, because they'll just get fined instead of hit with a competitive disadvantage that they'd actually be arsed about. Your punishment for spending too much money is that you get to spend even more money paying us to just forget about it. That's what this is. We all knew this was how this story ended though. All today has proven to me is that Manchester City have been accepted into the group of elite clubs.

It’s not even that. They’re on a different playing field from a skewed sponsorship point of view. And that effects everyone. Imagine bunging a Saudi company £25 million to sponsor your business. Then the other business negotiate with sponsors in the same bracket (tyres, telecoms, beer supplier) and the going rate is 4 times higher for City who don’t actually attract the commercial revenue of the other clubs. It’s outright cheating.

I don't think they look at these things in that much detail, I think they simply know that the Champions League will be better for having Manchester City and their excellent team in it than not. That's all they're really bothered about. The fact they still have a fine tells you everything to me.
Devil-Dick Willie Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 You're UEFA. Manchester city have spilled the tea on their dodgy dealings. Do you.... A. Punish them with the restrictions you have set in place to deter such activity, restrictions you would have no problem laying on a club like Leverkusen or Atalanta, but restrictions that would mildly diminish the prestige of the Champions league in coming seasons as one of the only 2 decent English clubs is cut from the competition. OR B. Line your pockets. If you chose A, you'll never work for Uefa.
Administrator Stan Posted July 13, 2020 Administrator Posted July 13, 2020 It also begs the question of what punishment a smaller club would have faced. A team that's not a familiar face in the Champions League, for example. Like Atalanta. Imagine if they'd committed the same. They'd probably be slapped with a fine and a ban. Because UEFA can as they have that power. It doesn't set the right example that Man City have committed a wrongdoing (otherwise why would they be fined?) but have got away with a more serious punishment. It's double standards and sets a bad precedent. If you're one of the elite clubs that is financially mis-managed you know you can escape with a fine which will mean very little in the grand scheme of things (especially with a mega-rich club like Man City).
DeadLinesman Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 It’s amusing because they’ve failed to co-operate in the investigation and so the evidence becomes inadmissible and you pay a simple fine. Then all you see on Twitter is wE’vE bEeN eXoNeRaTeD. No you haven’t you silly twats. How on Earth is evidence time barred in a case like this?

So they essentially can't be prosecuted, because it's outside the statute of limitations? Cheat and do everything to cover your trail that is long enough for 5 years.
DNA Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Corruption in plain sight and nothing can be done about it, another reminder of the kind of society we live in.. total injustice.

Milan might have a lawsuit on their hands here after their ban. Can only assume that FFP has to be binned now. What's the point of the clubs adhering to it, when the very elite clubs can just buy their way out of it?
