Update - Day Two

giphy.gif

Casualties (1): The first casualty of our competition is @Batard, who scores an own goal by calling Morocco to beat Iran in their opening game. One down, thirty-four to go. Better luck next time mate.

giphy.gif

Survivors (1): On the right end of a late winning goal this time is @LFCMike, who sneaks through the first round thanks to Uruguay's success against Egypt. Mike becomes the sixth person to progress to the second round of fixtures and whenever he's ready, can now choose any team other than Uruguay to win in the second round of fixtures available below.

Not in play today (33): Tomorrow will make up for today's relative lack of action in the Last Man Standing competition, with a total of 9 entrants relying on either France (against Australia), Argentina (against Iceland) or Croatia (against Nigeria) to carry them into the next round. Enjoy the football, folks.

Round 2 (Group Stage 2) Fixtures

Portugal v Morocco

Denmark v Australia

France v Peru

Argentina v Croatia

Update - Day Three

Casualties (3)

giphy.gif

Oh Leo, Leo, Leo. Three of the remaining thirty-four contenders will have their champagne left permanently on ice(land) as Messi, a man that many deem to be the best player of all time, can't even score a penalty against a team managed by a dentist. Today's losers are @RandoEFC, @tlr and @SirBalon, who as we speak is typing about his new Cristiano Ronaldo pyjamas in the Men's Fashion Trends thread.

Survivors (6)

@Cannabis will be dabbing long into the night, having been the only person to go with France this early in the competition. He is joined by five further contenders, who saw Croatia comfortably dispatch Nigeria to carry them into the second round without having to use up one of their big hitter picks - smart picking by @Devon Von Devon, @The Artful Dodger, @Teso dos Bichos, @Rucksackfranzose and @Tommy. The six of you can now make your pick for the second set of fixtures, again listed at the end of this post.

Not in play today (25)

We now have a total of 12 players into the second round, and a further 19 waiting to find out their fate over the next few days as to whether they will join them or suffer the embarrassment of not even being able to predict one team to win at the World Cup (:whistling:). Tomorrow, three more contenders (one backing Germany, two backing Serbia) will be the next to find out. Enjoy Sunday's games everyone!

Round 2 (Group Stage 2) Fixtures

Iran v Spain

Denmark v Australia

Update - Day Four

Casualties (1)

giphy.gif

Currently on holiday, @The Palace Fan looked to have taken a safe route through the opening round of the Last Man Standing competition, using an early "big hitter", but instead is shafted by Mexicans and becomes the fifth one to fall face first over the first hurdle. Welcome to the darkness, my friend.

Survivors (2)

Congratulations to @Stan and @Mel81x who successfully backed Serbia to get past Costa Rica in their opening group game. A risky one, perhaps, but you can't ask for much more than to progress to the next round without using a pick you might need later in the tournament. You can both now make your pick for the second set of fixtures (listed below) at your convenience. I'd also suggest that those others who have already progressed to the second round to make their choices sooner rather than later!

Not in play today (28)

Today was a bit of a quiet one, but tomorrow sees plenty of action, with 1 entrant backing Sweden to beat South Korea, 6 backing Belgium to defeat Panama and 4 backing England to defeat Tunisia. Enjoy day five of the World Cup!

Round 2 (Group Stage 2) Fixtures

Russia v Egypt

Portugal v Morocco

Uruguay v Saudi Arabia

Iran v Spain

Denmark v Australia

France v Peru

Argentina v Croatia

Brazil v Costa Rica

Nigeria v Iceland

Serbia v Switzerland

Belgium v Tunisia

South Korea v Mexico

Germany v Sweden

England v Panama

Japan v Senegal

Poland v Colombia

Anyone else wants to change theirs please make a new post to guarantee I see it. A couple of you have edited existing posts which I've luckily seen when scrolling around but there's no guarantee I'll see edits in future, especially if the thread continues onto the next page for example.

Cheers and keep them coming!

Update - Day Five

Casualties (0)

giphy.gif

Despite a close call for those of you who backed England to beat Tunisia, nobody is left with egg (or cream pie) on their face today, well done folks!

Survivors (11)

giphy.gif

This first round's most popular pick was Belgium, and the Red Devils didn't disappoint, Lukaku and co. carrying @nudge, @...Dan, @Berserker, @Asura, @Lucas and @Marc into the next phase. Harry Kane's late winner for England allows @Machado, @DeadLinesman, @shut up and @Bluewolf to live another day - experience counts! The greatest shock of the round, though, came in the early kick-off, where @Dan's slightly left-field pick of Sweden to beat South Korea, which I'm sure was "nailed on", came off. The second set of fixtures are available at the end of this post ready for all of you to make your next picks.

Not in play today (19)

With eleven more players moving into the second round, making a total of 25 guaranteed participants in the next phase, and just five more entrants awaiting their first round fate in tomorrow's Group H games, the competition is hotting up. I am now going to tag some people who need to make their picks for the second round.

People who are already through to the second round but are yet to make their picks and haven't already been tagged above - this is your reminder to make a pick for the second set of fixtures. You do not need to make your pick before the Russia-Egypt kick-off at 7pm tomorrow, as long as you obviously make your pick before your match kicks off. However, I suggest making your pick sooner rather than later as this is the last time I will specifically tag you - @The Artful Dodger, @Teso dos Bichos, @LFCMike, @BounceAroundTheGround, @El Profesor, @Toinho, @Viva la FCB.

People whose first round picks haven't played out - feel free to make your pick for the second set of fixtures before your place in the second round is confirmed. E.G. You might be waiting on Colombia to win tomorrow afternoon then want to choose Egypt tomorrow evening for the second set of fixtures - you don't have to wait until the Colombia result to post this. If your first pick doesn't come off I can simply ignore your second pick. This group will be tagged again tomorrow when you either get killed off or make it through to the next phase - @StefBWFC, @Inverted, @Panna King, @Eco, @Harvsky (ffs this is the second time you've changed your name during a LMS competition xD).

Any questions, fire away, enjoy the football!

How the hell did so many people avoid Brazil and Germany? I cannot believe that's only sunk the one.

Anyhow, easy pick, Uruguay.
